Considering the Unthinkable......Selling My Collection

After much deliberation, I am considering parting with almost my entire collection of sports cards and memorabilia. It's a tough decision that I really don't want to make, but feel it may be a necessary evil at this point.

Even though it's not an enormous collection, I wouldn't have the time to list everything on eBay myself. As such, I would look to consign the collection to either Probstein or PWCC. Any input on these two (or others out there) would be greatly appreciated.

I can also provide my spreadsheet listing everything in my collection (year, card #, player, quantity, etc.) to anyone on here that would want first crack at something. I'll be adding all my signed items to that list tonight PM if interested and I will send over.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Screen shot the spread sheet and list it in the BST first. Give it a week and you may find you have a good portion of your collection sold.

    Considering the Unthinkable

    Hiya Ryan

That's not just "unthinkable" but rather sad.

Context? Getting out of the hobby? New house? Just curious.

Sorry to hear this - I know that would be worse than unthinkable for me.

Engagement/house purchase. Still several months away from both, but this will provide a solid building block for both. Won't be getting out entirely, there are several pieces i'll be keeping (i.e. my Patrick Roy collection, some vintage cards, and all autographs obtained in person), and the spreadsheet will serve as my "rebuilding" template down the road.

I love BUYING from Probstein! I always end up thinking, "If only they'd listed it correctly, or described it in more detail, or included a few more pics, then no way would I have ended up getting the item that cheaply!"...

I'd go with Rick P. Had a great experience breaking a set with him once.

Any PSA high grade Topps pre-1970 and this forum will be all over it, including me.

Might save you the hassles and expense of consigning. You'll have to decide for yourself which way is best to generate the most revenue with the least effort.

Good luck, and looking forward to your BST post.

We'd be interested. Send an inventory list to ReedBBCE@gmail.com. If we work out a deal, we would come to you to get it and pay cash. It will undoubtedly be the option with the least amount of effort; by preparing an inventory list, you've already done the hard work!

It still bothers me that Probstein does not bother to take the time to provide a scan of the back side of the cards he lists for sale.

I am going to try to respond to everyone later tonight, been a hectic day so far. I'll work on posting what's available in the BST section, but probably wont get around to that until the weekend.

As a side note, because it keeps coming up. The collection is mostly modern. I have some low-mid grade vintage baseball, and low grade vintage hockey available. Basketball I have nothing pre-1970, and only 2 lower grade football pre-1970.

I have used Probstein twice. Very pleased both times.

I took the plunge and went with PWCC, just finished up with them last week, shocked (good) at some of the prices I got on my cards.Went mostly with hockey...Stanley Cup and all.
Lots and lots of eyeball view their auctions.

Going to gather up another batch to send to PSA then to PWCC for another go around.

Congrats! I got about 82% of VCP for my cards.

    Thanks MarkJ,
I'm familiar with VCP so I'm assuming that is very good.
What I had in my total cost of cards I sent in I more than doubled my money including fees.
    So I was very happy.

I am in a similar situation. The last couple of years I have added some nice pieces(at least to me), but it seems like the interest in sports cards is dwindling a bit at the moment. Not sure why. I have been thinking of getting back into coin collecting...that could be part of it. I will probably keep stuff I don't think anyone else would want and probably my Nolan Ryan collection, but I have a lot of bigger names(Trout, Jeter and some better basketball)that would probably liquidate quickly. Good luck on whatever you choose to do! :)

Well, after getting dicked around by a couple locals for the last week, I've decided to hold on to everything for the moment and pick up some side work to help out. It is a bit relieving, I was having major anxiety about parting with everything, so I can now sleep a bit easier.

Thanks to the board members for your interest, and if anything changes, those I've spoken with already will be the first I reach out to.
