Re: What makes the 2020-W Proof Gold Buffalo in PR-70 so costly?
The 2020 proof coin is the current lowest minted coin in the set. The mint stopped short of selling the full mintage and pulled them early in 2020 with a mintage of ~10,500 out of the 16,000 max, creating the rarity. The 2024 coin with a current sales number of ~8,500 could overtake the 2020 as the key, but I don’t know how many remain in their inventory.
What makes the 2020-W Proof Gold Buffalo in PR-70 so costly?
The population report doesn't indicate that the coin is more "rare" than several of its siblings whose prices are lower.
Is there an explanation that I'm not seeing?

One of my favorite Carson’s. Just love that fiery reverse!

Re: Classic Commemoratives on the rise?
I started collecting them about 5 years ago simply because I liked the “Americana” aspect of the series. Not much has changed and I still grab one or two at every show. During Covid I jumped onto the smaller gold ($1, $2.50) issues and just about completed the set. I have seen the gold jump a bit, but again it’s just a hobby, not an investment vehicle.

Re: Any advice on purchasing Walking Liberties for a 1941-47 short set?
I finished this set recently and to add some challenge I did them all in PCGS old green holders (OGH) and tried to find examples with CAC stickers when possible. I did them all in 65 with a few 66s here and there with the thought of working to do an all 66 set in OGH as well, but I think many of those OGH 66s have been cracked. It was a fun set and I keep looking for what I consider to be upgrades in either eye appeal or strike, but finding them in the OGH does present a challenge. The S mints were surprisingly difficult to find in OGH and I imagine many of the 65+ examples were also cracked. Take your time and have fun with it.
Re: Any advice on purchasing Walking Liberties for a 1941-47 short set?
I love walkers, but have always felt the late dates were rather ubiquitous.
But, if I were assembling only those, I would look for exceptional strikes and attractive toning, to help them stand out from the other average looking pieces.
Re: Nothing but Carson City coin posts
A little different look, unfortunately had to sell to raise cash. Envision it was in some old album or maybe a custom tray with a tab holding coin. PCGS MS62.
