I bought my 70 graded and shipped for $359.99. Maybe I should send it to GC and make a couple hundred?!
Re: [BIG] Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee Meeting Recap (October 2024)
I’m OK with all of the coins except for one!
Liberty being depicted specifically as a still- living person, Ruby Bridges
I don’t care who it is, we should not have living people on coins. Even the presidents had to wait until they died to be put on a coin. Ruby Bridges is still very much alive.
The crazy part is, this was an issue 100 years ago for the Sesquicentennial coin when Calvin Coolidge was put on it.
Calvin Coolidge ranks among the worst presidents of all time.
There’s a reason we don’t put living people on coins, but the most obvious one to me is the fallacies of humans while they are still alive.
Imagine putting Jared Fogle on a half dollar commemorating his Subway campaign in helping people lose weight
Re: GTG - 1940 Walking Liberty Half Dollar - MS67!
I'll go ahead and grade this MS68. It's got it all. Strike, no contact marks and superior luster.
I'm probably wrong but that's how much I like it and that's what it looks like to me.
Edited to correct spelling.
Re: Saw this 1876-CC G$10 on reddit
Has the appearance of XF cleaned with a mark or hit near 9:30 by the fourth star. No way to tell if there are other hidden problems from the blurry photos of a multi thousand dollar coin, like ex-jewelry on the edge etc.
Many would prefer a problem free VF over that one. VF wholesale is around 7k so it would likely be less than that without viewing in person. Guessing it is priced far higher.
PeakRarities covered the considerations very well.
Re: Anyone want to share their new purchases?
@Copperindian very surprised @oreville parted with something from his collection! Congratulations!
Re: Saw this 1876-CC G$10 on reddit
Bad plastic, bad photos. I’d rather buy such a coin in a slab from a reputable service. That being said, I’m guessing it’s probably real. Want to roll the dice on that? Your call.
It’s risky on such an expensive coin. And even if the coin is authentic, who knows what kind of hidden problems it might have that were not noted by the slabber? That has been my experience with these “Third World” slabs; more than the issue of authenticity.
