Well, folks, I ran an experiment, and this forum failed miserably. I posted a fake picture of a real eBay listing of a rare 1909 cent selling for around $59,000 to test whether anyone here would give accurate information on its rarity and value. Instead of offering real insight, every comment downplayed the coin’s significance, claiming it wasn’t rare or valuable. What’s worse is that some of you clearly knew better. The so-called “investigators” here figured out the coin’s rarity but chose to stay silent or give vague, dismissive responses. Why? To avoid giving someone else credit for a valuable find? To downplay someone else’s success? It’s clear this forum isn’t about helping others learn — it’s about protecting egos and gatekeeping information.
I came here to see if anyone would give honest, accurate feedback on a well-documented rare coin, and instead, I was met with fake advice and outright misinformation. The fact that I had to fake a listing just to see if anyone here actually knew what they were talking about is proof enough that this forum is unreliable.
If you’re looking for genuine advice or honest guidance, this is not the place. It’s a community that thrives on downplaying others and withholding the truth. The moment I posted proof of the coin’s actual value, the silence and dismissiveness spoke volumes. This place is a joke — nothing but a circle of people pretending to be experts while keeping others in the dark.
Congratulations, forum. You had the chance to be helpful, and instead, you proved you’re not trustworthy. I tested you, and you failed.
How about posting pics of your coin here so those of us who missed your last thread will know WTF you're talking about?
Go to the chat about 1909 Cent what are you opinion you will see and yes I said Lincoln memorial for a reason lol
Cute experiment. Funny thing is that you could have spun it as a useful lesson in a friendlier and more respectful way and it would have been a good thing. Instead, all you've done is alienate people and (most likely) get yourself banned. Perhaps a good leaning experience for you too?

You don't have to stay here if you don't like us and since we're mostly dummies why bother?
Re: "Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections."
Sounds like a good read, but the "Google book review" looks like an over the top sales pitch. I hope the book lives up to the hype because I need to get one.

You sure reached a lot of very broad negative conclusions about this forum based on your experiment.
In addition to that, you’re wrong. Anyone who reads large numbers of threads here would know that.
But if you’d like to ignore the massive body of evidence that contradicts your assessments, that’s your prerogative. Enjoy whatever fruits you derived from your trickery. Not my first Rodeo here this is exactly why I did this experiment to prove ya'll don't know wtf u are talking about
Tell it to the guy with the original post on eBay it's his pictures with his 1909 Cent !!! Lmao 🤣
Like most Internet forums, there are varying levels of expertise, correct information and misinformation, helpful posters and trolls. It can be hard to sort through - especially for people new to the hobby (not saying you are new).
I’m not sure you proved anything though - folks caught on pretty quickly and you got dismissive posts from 3-4? posters? I’d argue that’s not a representative sample.
There are some other very good coin forums - perhaps your time is better spent elsewhere given your frustration level?
Only because I called them out on their deceit I'm ok with that truth prevails
You sound as if you don’t know the difference between unintentional incorrect information and “deceit”. You received the former from some respondents to your opening post. On the other hand, you’re the one fully deserving of the “deceit” label.
Truth hurts huh ! ....funny that all ya'll are pointing the finger but no one is actually taking accountability
I’m thinking that you’re the only one who thinks you’re clever.

Well, they haven’t won a Space War yet….Many people don't realize that WWIII will be fought in outer space. Our adversaries already have killer satellites in orbit that can take out our communications and GPS satellites rendering our ICBM's, cruise missiles, and other weapons systems unusable.
It will also be fought with drones and hacks shutting down the whole electricity grid. It won't start with a big bang, but will likely end with one.

I think some members look at the post count before they look at the coin pictures and respond accordingly. Today it appears they might have a little egg on their faces. oops!!
I agree - and can think of several posters with a relatively high post count that have limited numismatic knowledge and/or experience or are only knowledgeable in a small slice of the hobby. Unfortunately there’s not really an efficient way to immediately assess the credibility of a poster (especially as a newbie) - you need to be familiar with or research the numismatic value of a member’s past posts.

It is you who are untrustworthy and dishonest. Everyone who responded gave sincere responses to what turned out to be a very insincere question.
No one here wants to intentionally give incorrect information. And no one here wants to downplay anyone's success.
If you had spent some time on the forum you would know that early proof Lincolns can be very tricky to identify.
Your first two threads resulted in honest - and accurate - answers. You had no reason to "test" anyone with this thread.
Good luck with your next forum. You certainly won't get the same level of expertise of some of the people here.
