Help Identifying Vatican/Pope Coin ?

My Mother brought this back to me from her trip to Italy back in the 70's. Said she got it at a shop close to the Vatican. It appears to be Gold and has a frosted prooflike appearance. It's the same size as a dime. I sent it to ANACS some time back with some other coins for slabbing and they sent it back unslabbed. I think they said it was either a medal or a token (I really don't remember what they said). Anyone got any ideas what it is and if PCGS or someone else will slab it.

I'd say a medal of some sort. Probably wouldn't be slabbable, for that reason.

It's neat-lookin', though.

If it were a coin, it'd have some sort of denomination listed on it.

Pope Paul VI - pope from 1963 to 1978. What you have is probably a medal dated 1975.

It is indeed a medal. The artist is Affer, an Italian medalist who does a lot of papal medals.

So why doesn't PCGS slab them if they get sent in? I'm curious as to the logic.
