Yes, the thing they put in the fake holder is not even close to looking Mint State, and it's in an MS-65 holder.
They overexposed the slab pictures in an effort to cover it up, but the rub or whatever they did to the thing still shows. This looks desperate or greedy. They could have tried an AU-55 or 58 label and might have gotten away with it ... at least at a flea market.
Unfortunately the certification number matches up to an 1899 dollar in PCGS MS-65. I guess they have figured that out and are now going for people who assume that the holder is good if the certification number matches.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Well it is a somewhat hard to find date ...
Seriously, though, most any collector who can grade anything should be able to look at this and see that it's not an MS-65, even if it were real. It's not even Mint State with a lot of rub on the obverse.
It's just amazing how inept some people are who bid on eBay. If you know that little, you are far better off bidding on items offered by the major auction houses. At the very least they screen for counterfeits and offer protection against them.

Thank you for the heads up...coins belong to a family member who believes that everything is authentic. We have decided to take the collection into a local coin shop have them look at everything before we go any further. If they say they are good we will relisted them, and if not...then thank you again.
