Does it deserve a premium? I like the greens.

I'm thinking it could fetch a significant premium.
Especially if in a PCGS holder for those that might be concerned it's AT.

    Edited to add:
Toning looks sweet to me though I'm not convined at's NT and not a high end AT...
90% certain it's NT from my perspective... I'm no expert though- just sticking my neck out with my opinion.

I love those colors, but.......the greens do not seem natural to my jaundiced Morgan eye.

Hope you secure the PCGS color premium acceptance.

The picture makes it look AT . The greens just don't look right .

    Seems wrong.

  • How much of a premium would you place on this coin, 100, 200, 300 or more saying the toning is NT?
  • CoinJunkieCoinJunkie Posts: 8,772 ✭✭✭✭✭
The burlap pattern on the cheek makes me say NT all the way, and yes, it should
fetch a very nice color premium.

I like it, and think its natural. There appears to be a textile type toning pattern across the check (green dot) as well.
I like large size currency and silver dollars.
  • Look in the right hand field and you can see the textile pattern also. The textile pattern is the green dots and most likely has something to do with the color.

  • Absolutely yes. Should go for four to five times what it would be worth without toning.
Let's try not to get upset.
  • Why would this coin go for 4X to 5X lets say MS64 price at 80.00-90.00? What is it about this toning that would pull that premium?

Just guessing ... but the greens are pretty unusual and generally drive prices up.

    Hi John,

Well, one reason would be that in a bag of 1000 coins, very few will make contact with the interior surface to receive a "tonal imprint" of the interstices in the canvas (cotton or hemp is my guess, not burlap). Also, rodents don't whiz a heck of a lot image

Edit to for spelling and to add: And the greens!

    Like it.

It's a slider, right? Looks like a little bit of wear on the high points of her hair. Is that part toned, too? I can't tell from the pix.

(Not that it matters, necessarily. I was just wondering. Nice looking coin, regardless.)

Although I do not sell coins, it would be nice to own that one just for the premium people pay for tarnish..... other than that I would not be interested. Cheers, RickO

I like it. NT. Worth several hundred in a PCGS 64 holder. Twice that in a 65 holder.

Some collectors would pay a premium. It is just a matter of finding them.

Definitely worth a decent premium if the colors are accurate in the pic. NT all the way too, looks like textile and pull away toning thrown in for good measure. Hard to say what the exact premium would be, but I've seen these bid up fairly good in many an auction. To those that think this one isn't worth much more than a normal graded one, please sell me all you got like this at 1.5x guide please.

It deserves a HUGE premium. That type of toning is one of the favorites of many a collector.
  • machoponchomachoponcho Posts: 355 ✭✭✭
Toning like that deserves a huge premium. Depends on the grade. Premium would be something like +$300 to +$1000 assuming the reverse is untoned. It's got to have the NT blessing of PCGS or NGC, though, to fetch that kind of premium. Even raw that coin would bring +$100 to +$300.

I would have to see the coin in hand, but if the photo is accurate, the colors do not look natural to me.

Yes. I would say greater than 75% of people who saw this coin (and liked toning) would find this attractive and pay a premium IMHO.
