WOW. The coins are amazing.....and very deserving of "improved photography" FWIW.

For me not many IHC's, but lot's of out of series temptation........

And I did place a bid just to get in the game.

This particular sale seems pretty heavily slanted to just a couple of series, mostly proof issues. Not much for me this time.

The photography is clearly better though.....

I was bored and looked a lot of nice coins to see but it makes me wonder why so many of Simpsons coins do not have the football. While some are said to have failed to get a football some say nothing. Legend being a big fan of cac makes you wonder why no football whether they were submitted or not. I would have expected a 99 plus percent football score if using a company of legends status to build sets. IKt may have just been the 3 or 4 that failed but the proof sets are not beaned either.

Coins for just about every budget are there.

nice images but maxed out at 600x600?

even if you don't want the site viewer to display larger images for whatever reason(s), you can still upload larger images so people like me can still at least - copy image location and open in new tab.

and with material like this, large has got to be better.

tried the auction in IE and i do like the 1 click full screen image viewer. very fast and efficient. a big

the mouseover scroll function for more info on the bulk listing page is pretty cool.

- good way to conserve vertical space.

I don't understand why they would call lot 177 a PR67 set when it contain mostly PR66's just a notes to watch out on the descriptions

Wow! Those photos are pretty cool. Some of the best around. I know taking good photos ain't easy, even the three cent nickels are much different from photo to photo. But keep on improving!

The coins. Yummy. That Mr. Simpson fellow, sure does have a collection I have never seen a set of Proof Seated Dimes like that. Great run! Those early coins are really monsters. The high grade later dates are neato. Probably a ton of value in there, as we saw all the Newman proof Seated quarters go thru the roof and set new price levels for Proof Seated. Sad to see it sold. Its not of my biz, but I always thought Simpson was going to be like Eliasberg and get everything! I'd figure he'd have the best shot of anyone, especially since he's got the dough, then the Newman, Gardner, Battleborn, Pogue sales. I guess he is refocusing his collection elsewhere. Or maybe these are his lower graded dupes!

Those early proof sets are quite cool, you never see stuff like that!

pennyannie : just my two cents about your comments regarding the Dimes should be 99% CAC because its Legend. There's a lot of factors that go into this. Building a great set like this aint easy, especially when you factor in the timeframe that Simpson has acquired most of his collection. You've got to acquire multiple sets sometimes to build great sets, and that maybe means you are buying an entire collection just for one coin. If you are building a set of super high grade proof Seated Coins, it will take time to get it "just right" and in CAC holders. In the meantime some collectors prefer to keep a subpar coin in a set, until a better one comes along, we have all done that before. Sometimes a better one just doesn't pop up like its expected to. If you look at the his near complete run of pre 1858 Proof Dimes, all but two are CAC, quite impressive. One is an 1853 NGC PF66. Tough Coin. Ten struck, two have been auctioned in the last 14 years, the other was a NGC PF66 coin as well, maybe the same one? Just shows there are not a lot of opportunities to upgrade. From the scans, the Simpson 1853 looks like a nice coin. But who knows? Maybe it finds it way into a PCGS PR65 holder, or 65+, or 65 cam, or 65+ cam, on and on, and then CAC gets involved. The coin has potentially a dozen different values on paper. Then there is the lets just leave it in the NGC 66 holder and give the illusion that lets leave some meat on the bone for the next guy 'cause its in a NGC holder and not CAC'ed, problem is that everyone shows up to that party when its the right coin. FWIW, I certainly like it a lot better than the 1852 that been CAC'ed. Just MHO.

Unfortunately, the platform that we use to manage and list the auction, AuctionFlex, and the platform used for the the online catalog and bidding, Bidopia, is limited to certain image sizes, otherwise preview images wouldn't generate correctly. We felt that 600x600 was a decent compromise, but we always suggest you see the coins in person before bidding. We will have them this week in Baltimore, and before the sale at the PCGS Members Only Show. In addition, we can arrange for lot viewing in our New Jersey office upon request.
