Curious if anyone has ever attended a State run auction of **UPDATE**
unclaimed items. We have one every year (actually two, one in N. Nevada and one in S. Nevada) and I've
never attended one yet. IT's Saturday with preview at 9 and auction at noon. Anyone do any good at
these events? Any hints?

Almost always these auctions have high reserves (even when advertised as not) and have a large bidding audience so you can forget about finding bargains or even anything decent without having to overpay.

weather and if it's a crappy, cold, windy day, may just go anyway.

The guns at the sale were bringing so much money that the sheriff had a deputy bring some of the departments guns and sold them because he could replace them for much less!

I saw this at State Police gun auctions in WA state.....unbelievable prices .... could go five blocks down the street to the gun shop there and buy a new gun for less than the auction prices.... testosterone rules at these auctions.... Cheers, RickO
unclaimed safe deposit boxes and put on by the Nevada state Treasurer with TNT Auctions doing
the work.
Nothing to shout about but interesting so say the least. Bought one auction ($20 gold note) but no
coin auctions. Bid on dozens but did not get any.
All the coin lots went for full retail and then some and then add the 10% buyers fee on top of that!
All gold coins went for full retail except the modern stuff which went for slightly under spot.
10oz silver bars (generic stamped and poured) all went for $225-235 each. Then add the 10% on top!
One oz AGE's in and out of Mint packaging went for $1150-1250 plus BF
Pre '33 gold $20 were selling at $1350-1600 plus BF
Krugs were selling at $1150 plus BF
5 coin sets of gold Pandas with no packaging were at $2400-2500 plus
1986 Panda one oz was $1150 plus
1985 Isle of Mann Plat one oz sold for $1300 plus
Lot of silver: 10 halves, 2 mercs, 1 Peace, 1 Morgan, 96 wheat cents, 197 silver dimes, 241 silver quarters: $1250 plus
2 $2 bills, 25 sacs, 5 silver halves, 3 1980's mint sets, 2 silver dimes, 1 steel cent, 40 quarters, 8 presidential dollars,
and 6 SBA's sold at $275 plus.
27 $2 bills, 86 Ikes, 2 SBA, $175 plus
6 assorted gold foreign coins, 2.94oz in gold: $2,800 plus
608 Mercs and 718 Roosies (silver): $1,900 plus
14 Unc toned Morgans (common O's and P's) with nice but not spectacular rainbows: $825 plus
1897p Redfield; $325 plus (red holder marked 65 but no better than 63)
1780 Maria Theresa restrike from the sixties: $90 plus (had a bit of toning but not overly attractive)
1878cc Morgan in VF, $200 plus
All were common dates, not one rare that I could find.
Overall it was fun and there were about 100 in the bidding room, live bids only, no internet or phone.
So there it is.
Home by 3:30, bar was open!

i would have enjoyed hitting the bar before and after that with you even though i'm not much of a drinker. seems like it would have been fun, just 2 morons discussing their moronic topics and spilling beer on themselves all afternoon.
.
But, yet it would have been fun to attend with you or many others on this forum.
Since it was almost in Downtown Las Vegas, there would have been many fine places
to find to swallow a brewsky or two.
We'll do that someday.

<< <i>Was this the local auction that had the 1875-cc 20c piece you were looking at? If so, I take it you didn't snag it?
Not me, no not this auction. Got me confused with another formite. But, I'd bite on a nice cheap
75cc double dime.
