Never Mind - Are the CU Forums UNUSUALLY Slow?

19Lyds19Lyds Posts: 26,492 ✭✭✭✭
I managed to see GoldBully's thread...............

Since late Friday, the forums are taking forever to load while other forums pop up in a snap.

Is something going on?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    slow for everyone

I wasn't going to say anything until later in the day Monday, just in case they were doing something over the weekend. anyway, is anyone around on the weekends to reboot the forum servers?

I believe it was mentioned by Don that we would be seeing a new and improved forum in January,... so I imagine this is all part of the renovation....Cheers, RickO

Super fast for me. Just use a Firefox + Adblock Plus plugin + newest Flash + newest Java.

    Yep.

Hitting stop "X" in Firefox seems to help, page may / may not appear.

    Sheesh.

Anytime PCGS wants to upgrade this dinosaur, I'm OK with it.

I had forgotten the AdBlock Plus and just installed in on my iMac I have had for a couple of years now. The threads literally went from taking 2+ minutes to load, to loading instantaneously! All those horrible ads and Like and Twit and FB buttons can be turned off too which I never use.

    iMac / Mac OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) / Firefox 25.0.1

    .
i'm sure you guys/gals nailed what was the culprit is but there are several variables to keep in mind.

some off the top of my head.

internet connection speed, dial-up vs wifi vs broadband vs dsl
    router, modem, cable length
number of connections for a particular service
    hd, ram, video, processor speed
    browser type and version
is your pc cluttered with internet junk files or clean
how many broswers you have open and how many tabs, programs, files.
    extra installed programs, add-ons
how many installed scripts are running in the background that you don't see also slows down startup. for windows, msconfig will show you these things. just be careful using it.
task manager can help end scripts/progs that are slow or stuck.
is update on for all your programs/browsers?

i'm sure there are some other important things. maybe someone else can add to my list.

This is the first post I've been able to make in days. Pages are taking 5+ minutes to load...

It's really annoying, to the point where I'm not visiting anymore.

Same here, and another 5 mins just to quote BustHalfBrian's thread to agree wholeheartedly. Matters not whether I use Firefox, Chrome, IE.
    I'll come up with something.

It takes me roughly 15 seconds to be able to do anything on the forums with my galaxy S3. I often browse the forums to kill time at work. With this issue, I'm almost forced to work! Nooooooooooooo!

With so many experiencing the same slow response I woud think it is somthing on CU's end.

I have the same delay at home and at work. I use IE 10 at home with 5 meg download speed and 8 here at work with 50 meg download speed. No change in delay time.

Yup, adblock did the trick. It's a quick install as well.

The problem is the script to get the ads. Something changed and now it is painfully slow unless you do the ONE THING mentioned in this thread that CU frowns upon. Personally, I like seeing the ads on this site because sometimes it introduces me to a dealer or auction that I had forgot about...but when the ads break the entire site....and I want to continue using the site, there is only one way. It stinks that I am unable to surf the site on my iPhone5 like I normally do since there does not seem to be a work-around that I like for that.

As it so happens, I have FireFox with AD Blocker Plus installed (for my FaceBook Adventures) and the forums are working just fine.

This tells me that there is something wrong with the ads PCGS is supporting when posters use IE 10. At least, thats the IE Version I have installed.

Of course, this is a very tyouchy subject since it has already been stated by Mr. Willis that anybody found using an AD Blocker will be banned.

I do not want to get banned but if using my current Firefox Installation is the only way to access and post, then I guess I'll have to use it until PCGS gets off their hiney's and gets this problem fixed since I don't really mind the ads.
