What is your favorite error that you currently own and what is your ultimate error?

What is the error that you would love to own if money were not an issue? Or, what is your favorite error that you already own?

For me favorite error is a dual denomination

My ultimate error would be the two cent/dime mules - I would love to buy both of them!

My favorite error has always been the 1955 Doubled Die Obverse Lincoln Cent.

I've been fortunate to own several over the years.

Ditto. No other error interests me the same way. I've been searching change for 50 years, hoping to find one. I have a 62BN but I'm not crazy about it. 65RD would be nice. image

A really cool double denomination where a Mercury Dime is part of it would be something I would enjoy! image

I picked up a broadstruck steel cent (1943-P) from a Yahoo auction 10+ years ago. I paid $13 for it and have always liked it.

This multi-struck cent isn't my absolute favorite but I like it a lot, especially the reverse. With unlimited funds there are several errors I would love to own.....it's hard to pick just one though.

I have a couple of Barber errors, can't say which is my favorite.

Some friends say their favorite is my 1895-O Dime Die Cap, others
prefer my 1898-P Quarter Die Cap Full Brockage Reverse.

I also like my Broadstuck Dimes & Off Centers - they make a great
presentation when shown with the two aforementioned errors.

Then again, my Buffalo errors are also favorites of mine as well.

    edited to add images...

The "ultimate" error for me would be the high grade, off-center twenty-cent piece I recall seeing in an auction catalog from about 25-30 years ago. I only saw the one appearance at auction.

Certainly not ultimate but I own it.
As far as ultimate error, I would say the IHC struck on a gold planchet, very cool IMO.

The favorite I own is a Buffalo nickel that split into an obverse half and a reverse half.

I would like to own a 19th American coin with a total brockage, but it's not in my budget.

So far as errors go my favorite among the coins that I own is the 1955 doubled die cent, but according to the purists, that's not an error. image

I too have several neat errors in my collection, but this one is probably my most unique not to mention quite popular when I bring it to shows.

And this belongs to one of my customer's but is an error I'd love to add to my collection!

I would want a double eagle struck on a cent
WTB... errors, New Orleans gold, and circulated 20th key date coins!
  • This is my neatest error: an 1841-D quarter eagle (ex Harry Bass-Stanley Kesselman), with a dramatically rotated reverse. With the eagle's head pointed at 9 o'clock, it's easy to see why Harry snapped up this piece. I bought it on the floor at the 2006 FUN Show. Unfortunately, the TrueView doesn't capture the rotation. I may contact Phil and see if he can correct this.

[Sidebar: I recently checked the coin and the eagle's head is actually pointed at approximately 3 o'clock].

My ultimate error would be a Dahlonega half eagle struck significantly off-center.

The most improbable error of all time:
    "1964-D Franklin", broad-struck over a flip-over multi-over-struck "1964-D Peace" (on a 1922-1935 Peace Silver Dollar).

Yes, indeed. The coin's in the bank vault, but I'll check to make sure the next time I go. Thanks very much!

I have never owned the 55 DDO but have always wanted one.

I can't bring myself to buy one as, IMO they are way overpriced for how many examples are out there. (Yes I know Lincoln is a very popular series and thus the demand vs supply keeps this puppy high)

The funny thing is the coin I posted above could be the only 6 cent piece for the year or at most, one of a handful .......

..... and for the grade mine is ... to buy a same grade 55 DDO, the 55 would be way more than what I paid for this rarer error coin.

For me, this Indian cent deep die cap, which is in another collector's private collection, is something I would call in my little copper world an ultimate error to own!

I don't presently own any error coins, but if this is to be a dream thread, I'd have to say that one of these would probably be my choice for hands down favorite US error coin. (Though one wonders how much of an "error" they really were, and whether or not they were deliberate, clandestine jobs like the 1913 Libnix?)

#2 would be a 1965 quarter on a silver planchet. That's my birthyear. Again, if we're doin' a fantasy thread, I suppose I'd have to have one of the dimes AND the quarters. (They did strike a few '65 silver dimes, too, didn't they?)

Edit to add ... wow, there's sure some cool lookin' stuff posted in this thread.

Not really an error collector. But I wouldn't mind owning a 55 dd.

Other than that, a cent struck on a silver dime planchet would be great (wheatie or memorial), or of course the Indian Head on a 2.50 planchet.

Otherwise, an o/c (dramatically) of a silver dollar or silver half would be pretty cool.
