Struck it rich at McDonalds!

jessewvujessewvu Posts: 5,079 ✭✭✭✭✭
I took my son fishing after work and as a treat we stopped at McDonalds for dinner and went to the drive threw. I paid and the lady at the window handed me a half dollar, it was a 1967! She had shut her window so I got her attention and she opened it back up. I asked if she had any more half dollars. She said a guy had just paid with "a bunch of them" and I reached for my wallet. After paying for dinner, I only had $4 left and told her I'd take $4 worth. She only had $3 worth so i bought them, said thanks, and moved on up in line.

I ended up with:
1 1961-D Franklin
3 1964 Kennedy (one was BU)
1 1967 BU Kennedy

About $49 worth of silver.

That's the first time I have received silver in change.

Very nice. However, I was hoping that you received the hidden mega millions ticket instead of a receipt.

Congratulations! Great learning opportunity with your son, too.
Same thing here more or less only I was the kid and my dad was amazed when we took the "change" to the B&M at my urging and left with $$$. That was a good day. Dad was impressed.

Similar thing happened to me at the Vons supermarket about a year ago. When the cash drawer opened at the end of my transaction, I saw the dull glow of silver halves in the near tray. I asked if I could take a look and the friendly checker said "sure". I ended up with 14 silver Kennedy's (mostly 40%, but I think there were 4 90%). The checker kept the two Frankies for herself. Earlier that day somebody had paid with a roll of halves...

Well, if anyone in Southern Maryland knows of a boatload of half dollars being stolen, send me a PM, i'll be happy to call the Po-po and have them look at other stores on this road. I hate to say it but the McDonald's is in a part of town that has the highest crime rate in our county from what I hear.

My 3.5 year old caught his first fish today. We went out once or twice last year but he didn't like it at all. This year we have been out twice and I'm thinking about buying a small Jon boat because he likes fishing so much now. Too bad you can't upload pictures from an iPhone here...

    Nice finds!

I'm also surprised that they just handed you a half dollar in change without asking. That rarely happens to me.

No doubt someone liberated these from Mom and Dad's coin collection... or someone's coin collection at any rate... oh well. At least they were acquired by someone who knew what they were and appreciated them.
