44K. Or maybe I should just call this thread "Milestones".

Well, another forum milestone passes me by. Or I pass by it. Whatever.
This is my 44,000th post.
That's a lotta typing, folks, even if it's spread out over nearly nine years. True, much of it has been meaningless drivel, I'll admit, but hopefully I've managed to drop a few small nuggets of wisdom now and then, too.
(Yes, those were miniature wisdom nuggets. Not what you thought they were. So put down the rolled up newspaper you were gonna whack the dog with.)
I'm just about 44.4 years old now, too. So four is the lucky number for the moment. Post a coin with a '44 date of some kind.
So what significance does my 44K anniversary on the forums have? Not much at all, really.
Another, sadder milestone with much more impact has been recently felt here, and that, as you may know, is the passing of our far-too-young friend Chad (Silvereagles92). Man, I had no idea he was only 17! I thought he was like, 28, or something!
In light of that there will not be the traditional milestone giveaway like folks often do. I'll just donate to the SE92 memorial fund that commoncents05 set up. Besides, I already have a giveaway running at the moment.
Post a '44 coin to mark my 44K or a Silver Eagle (especially if it's a 1992) to honor our late and lamented SE92, who's superceded material things like coins, now.

you drop Yap Stones of knowledge LordM
so true what you say about Chad, a fellow NC native like myself....way too young to go
here is your '44:
(my mom's birthyear; pic taken when all my pics used to be out of focus---not that i've improved all that much)
and here is a coin i purchased from Chad back in January of this year; he knew i liked carved/engraved/counterstamped Large Cents so he PM'd me a pic of it and a fair asking price (yes, we both were aware it is PMD/tooling all the way but it is neat nonetheless)

I just looked and have nothing stored from 1944. But, I can congratulate you on 9 1/2 years here, 44,000 posts, and the respect of the Forum members. May you post as long as you want to and want to as long as you post. MMMMMM that don't sound like that's right.

Hey, Greg, your mom and my Mom have the same birthyear. Cool. That's a cool piece you got from Chad, too. I bought a pretty MS65 Peace dollar from him a while back. A Bust half, too, as I recall. Of course both are long gone, now, but the memory of chatting with him remains. He and I swapped 136 PMs. That's a fair number but not quite enough for him to have made my buddy list- those folks are usually the ones with whom I've swapped thousands (you're rapidly catching up to ajaan as my top PM buddy).
The death of Wayne (Newbiecollector) hit me harder because Wayne and I were closer, having been cyberpals both here and on 24hourforums.com. Wayne was buddy list for sure. I didn't know Chad quite as well. But Wayne was in his late 60s or early 70s if I remember correctly, and Chad... wow. SO young.
But rather than lament the tragedy of one so young passing, let us think rather in terms of how much he accomplished in his short life. Just in the little bit I knew of him, he impressed me. To find out he was only 17 is shocking, because as I mentioned, I thought he was near 30. That speaks much about his wisdom and maturity. He was just destined to be a shooting star rather than a stationary planet, that's all.
Here's a song for SE92. It's a bit smarmy and oldfashioned for a young guy (after all, it's a Muzak-y sounding instrumental from the early 1960s), but I remember it from my childhood and it's got an appropriate melancholic, contemplative sound to it. (Yeah, yeah- try not to gag.)
Paul Mauriat- Love is Blue (instrumental)
Or with vocals, in French, if you prefer.

I'll see if I can find something from 1992 in honor of Chad. So, so sad.
Interestingly, speaking of milestones, this might end up being my last post ever, for reasons I cannot presently disclose.
Let's just say you can make your screenshots now, get out your popcorn, and wait.
This thread might mysteriously vanish like a couple of others have tonight.
Yes, I am being overly melodramatic, probably. I hope that's the case.
Maybe my logon credentials will still work when I return later. Maybe not.
(If they do, I'll toe the line and be a good boy and TRY to keep my mouth shut, which doesn't come naturally to me.)
If not, it's been great knowin' y'all. I'll see y'all out there in cyberspace.
Congratulations on 44K.... I have always enjoyed your threads... Digs o' the Day and all others. Your sense of humor brightens many otherwise grey days. Cheers, RickO
Day-um, he meant it.
