Ankur's non-original "idea"....your thoughts?

Fellow board member Ankur is currently soliciting trades to somehow start with a new 2009 cent and trade his way up to an 1893-S Morgan. First, isnt this really BST fodder and NOT appropriate for the coin forum? Secondly, since Ankur appears to be a very well heeled collector, does it seem inappropriate to be soliciting such "charitable" trades? And lastly, who here wants to be ripped off in a series of trades so that Ankur may get his very high dollar coin? At least with the ORIGINAL concept (red paper clip for a house), the trading parties got some type of international publicity. There will be no publicity in Ankur's proposal. Just a dozen or 2 people who will be scratching their heads wondering why they sacrificed to help the well-to-do Ankur.

<< <i>I'm just upset he skipped over my pink paper clip and went for a merc instead. >>
I saw that and thought to myself
self you need a pink paperclip for your astute collection of paperclips, maybe if he gets the paperclip you can swap it for an eraser that you have as a prized collectible item ( it once belonged to my late great grandmother Sadie), but then he tossed up a crappy merc dime.
All deals are off now...
hey anyone wanna trade a job for a beeutiful 22 Peace dollar- see my thread.....

An even more excellent response from that thread:
"The only way the "one red paperclip" experiment could work (or could EVER work in ANY field) to the exent you go from paperclip to house or 1973 cent to 1804 dollar is if the whole thing is part of some well publicized stunt, where those you are trading with are doing the trade more for the publicity/notariaty than they are for any value they actually see in the trade. In the real world, with real trades, the process would break down WELL before you got to the 1804 dollar or the house (unless you sweetened the deal by offering something in addition to what you got just from the original 1973 cent/paperclip trade) "
A point that I brought up, notice.
It will be remembered.

The signal-to-noise ratio in the U.S. Coin Forum is reaching dangerously low levels lately.
I don't think the original thread was appropriate in this particular forum, personally.
There is a BST and also a Coin Swaps forum that might have been better choices.
I sometimes wonder if the moderators shouldn't be more involved in stating the rules
explicitly around here. Threads go poof, usually with no explanation, and no one really
gains much understanding with that system.
Meanwhile, can we all please try to be a bit more civil toward one another?
If you can't afford the bandwidth, then stay off. Personally, I'd like this to feel more welcoming around here. I *absolutely* love some of the personalities on here and wish I could get into it deeper with them. But then again, I risk public ridicule by the likes of well, these types of cyber-personalities.
At least his trading thread was coin related and not personal. If you want personals, there's plenty of free dating services out there on the Interwebz. Sheesh! [An attempt to be humorous]
Can't we all just get along? And if we don't like something, while try and enforce our dislikes unto other forum members? Take it up in private. Take it up with a moderator. I'm sure other people would agree with your post, but the route you take to make such a dismissal of another participant is just completely and utterly, well lack of better word, childish. And so is what I'm typing. But crud, IT'S JUST THE INTERNET! =]
[Until somebody posts their address and says meet me outdoors! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!] *laugh* Children children [and their are children on these here forums, so let's try and keep it friendly!]

<< <i>It is threads such as these that make others want to stay afar [myself included] and rather just lurk and read because it seems once a person opens their big fingers up, somebody else is suddenly griping about that person. I have so many things I want to ask, want to write, and so forth, but I find it hard reading ridicule after ridicule of other forum participants and that keeps my fingers clenched.

Not at the moment. Summer hits I'll be traveling randomly every which way! Arkansas for sure in August [Ozarks/Eureka Springs, AR].
This is how my little collector rolls with his dad on these hippie adventures [to turn this into a happy thread!
Life is good...during the summer time!
*edit: I do seem to purchase most of my collection from folks on the East Coast strangely though...and PA is a recent hotbed for purchases as of lately!
btw... when I first tried to respond I got this funny message:

I don't know... why don't you bring it up with the moderators and our host instead of attempting to start a riot amongst the members who are just trying to enjoy themselves and share some information. If you think his post breaks the rules and you want to police this board I recommend that you begin actively searching out every "rule breaking" post and bothering the moderators until this board suits your personality or they delete your account.

No. Next question.

You are effectively calling Ankur a thief and anyone who deals with him a blithering idiot. Kudos, you have advanced your skill level in Antisocial +10.
