1901/18 Liberty nickel?

I just picked up another Liberty nickel on Ebay tonight and it looks like the 9 in the date is over an 8. Again, I can find no documentation on this variety. I'm just guessing that doubled dates and varieties are common among this series? Either that, or I just have incredibly good luck at finding them.

Does this look like the 9 is stamped over an 8 to you? Sorry the photos aren't more clear. They are the ones from the Ebay auction.

Nice pick-up ... I was watching that one too. I think it's a RPD ... not an overdate ... I can see traces of the 19 and 0, although I agree the 9 is farily dramatic.

There are several repunched date varities for 1901. Looks like you may have found one, but I'm not sure which one.
It doesn't exactly resemble any of the ones illustrated in the Flynn/Van Note book.
It is not a 9 over an 8.

it's sort of hard to tell from the picture but the bottom loop doesn't look like it should for an eight. perhaps it a small cud that formed and, combined with some re-punching at the date, gives the look in the picture. i'm sort of pulling for the undiscovered variety, though!!

Me too! What do I do to get the variety attributed on the holder when I submit to PCGS? Or is that possible?
