There wasn't too much to pick from in seated quarters and seated dollars in Baltimore.
I'm hoping to get the last 2 coins I need for type set book at the FUN show. Heck, I'll settle for just 1 of them! I'm looking for a 1838 seated quarter and a 1873 seated dollar that looks liek this dollar. I'm no rush. I just want to get the right coin for the set.

Would you believe it was in a PCGS XF-45 slab?

It is a nice looking XF-45 in hand. I've come to the conclusion that if Miss Liberties breast is flat at all, PCGS limits it to a XF-45. Looks like the same thing here...

Tootawl was kind enough to let me look at this coin on both Friday and Saturday and I can tell all of you it is spectacular! I would gladly add this piece to my collection, too, if it were to become available.

I am glad that you like that 1841 seated dollar. That was a piece that I consigned to Dick from my South County Collection of seated dollars. Actually three of the four 1841 seated dollars that Dick has in inventory are from my consignment. I had a thing for 1841 seated dollars for a while. The coin I kept in my set I crossed over from a very old ANACS holder and it has really nice old dark tone. It was a real decision deciding between those two coins as to which one I should keep and which one I should consign. For a long time I kept both and often considered asking Dick to send that one back.

As some additional info on your new 1841 seated dollar, I originally purchased it from Dick about two years ago and it has been in my registry set since then.

I have always been a lurker on this board but I was excited to see that someone really liked that coin. I have tried to keep all of the seated dollars in my registry set nice and original with old brown tone. It is always nice to know that the next owner of a coin from your collection is someone who appreciates the coin as much as you did.

Enjoy and good luck in the hunt!

Wow, an XF45 Seated dollar that isn't cleaned or ugly-toned. That has to be considered in the top 5% of the surviving population for the grade. Even slabbed coins are often cleaned or discolored in this series.

Welcome to the forum Scott! It did not take me long to realize that this coin was right for my type set. I'm trying to do either first or last year of issue. I saw this coin and decided to hell with my rules! image

Not bad! Reminds me when I picked up my 1840 for my type set. But it's not as nice!

tootawl: That was indeed an awesome pickup.

I am glad I got to see it in person.

It is even nicer knowing what collection that 1841 came from.

Too Tawl-Since you mentioned first year coins I will share my 1840 seated dollar. Hope you don't mind Old Green Holders image

Tom will probably like the tone on this one.

I am glad I stopped being a lurker. I can't wait to share and discuss info on nice original bust and seated coins.
