Birthmark Die #16.
Just got my 16th example in.

It's in an NGC MS66 holder. This is the latest die state example I've seen, and the first one I've found that isn't at least a lock cameo. The coin has enough contrast, though, that it would probably grade cameo about half the time.

Cool variety Russ.
How many does that make total that's known?
wes
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
<< <i>Russ, are these coins worth more than the regular '67 CAM or DCAM w/o the birthmark or is it just a neat variety you like? >>
They do bring a premium, (although not a large one), over the regular die but only when a couple of us whackos who are chasing them are competing for one. They aren't recognized by the grading services, so normal people don't really care about them.

The total that I know of is around 50 examples. But, I'm sure there's more out there. I'd guess there's probably a couple hundred where the mark is readily visible. I'd estimate that less than 50 two sided deep cameos exist, perhaps another 100 full cameos and the rest with some contrast, but short of the designation. I might be generous in those estimates, though. If the mint only used the die once without re-working it, the numbers would be a lot lower.

Yes, that one has a "faded" birthmark - can you still see the inconsistencies in the frost directly above his ear?
I would also agree with your assessment that there is probably a couple of hundred (max) out there - some yet to be discovered.
Now all we need is for it to be recognized as a variety and the prices will really shoot up!

Yep, both of the additional die markers are still visible even at this die state.

It looks more like a photo than a coin...

Russ,
You mean "normal people" collect Kennedys?

<< <i>Where's the birthmark? Is it on the cheek? Please educate those of us who are ignorant . Thanks . >>
The temple area. On DCAM/CAM examples it is a lot more pronounced.
<< <i>Where's the birthmark? >>
Here's an early strike example where it's more obvious:
It's the birthmark shaped dark patch above the sideburns toward the edge of the hair. The circled areas in this image are the two additional die markers that appear on these but not the regular die.

Kind of reminds me of a "bellybutton" Morgan. (except mark not on the belly)

Is this found only on SMS examples or can it be found on circulation strikes as well?
Just wondering as I've got 5 original rolls of this date and thought I should look for it.
