You can no longer see what others are bidding on @ ebay?

Tried to look at someone and got the following:
To protect bidder privacy, not all items that this member has bid on may be displayed.
For auction items, bold price means at least one bid has been received.
and then a bunch of auctions that are closed and he won.
Also, I was blocked from sending a message to someone that I did not have an "open transaction" with. Guess they changed that too?

I know that particular user has bid in over 300 auctions in the last 30 days, but now the search returns only the 80 they've won even if you check "Even if not the high bidder ".

<< <i>Maybe they just don't show auctions for which the seller has chosen to hide the bidder's identities (private auction) >>
Nope, not it. The bidder I linked had few if any private auctions in his history.

<< <i>I'll take a look on ebay and see if there's some new kind of option you can check off to hide your bid history. >>
I did that. Couldn't find an option, but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place.

Message: Why did Ebay change the the search of "current and recent auctions bid on"? Now when I check what my competitors are bidding on there is a notation that "to protect bidder privacy not all items are displayed.....". What is this all about? This was an aid to buyers who were looking for items to bid on. Sometimes I find an item to bid on by checking out what my competitor is bidding on. This idea of Ebay's stinks. This also will hurt sellers because it may lessen the buyers finding their items. Change it back the way it was!"
It does seem to work fine for other ID's, though like Russ said, it's only showing items won.

Perhaps this is their exact intent.

No such thing. Bid for what you would for an item, and not any higher. No one's forcing you to push the button

That is hilarious! Yet I get the feeling you're serious.
I hope this is the new policy, no one has a right to see what I'm bidding on.

<< <i>I've been trying to see the bidding history for a NARU's user for days - it keeps saying "Feature Unavailable". >>
I just tried a search on another NARU'd user and got the same message. So, in addition to making it tougher to detect shilling by hiding auctions the bidder didn't win, they are also protecting the privacy of scumbags who've been booted.

I love it. Someone gets someone else to bid on their items, and it is called SHILL. What a crock. You don't have to bid on it if you don't want to. Ironic - The "You SUCK" posts are usually about someone "trying" to pull off a steal from some e-bay seller. Why do you need to know what I or any other competitor is bidding on??? Can't you handle picking an item and bidding it accordingly for yourself???
I can't believe e-bay (which I never waste my time with), even allowed you to see what other lots someone was bidding on --- WHERE'S THE PRIVACY??? Looks like they are moving in the right direction.
Thank you for writing eBay in regard to the recent changes made to
search.
I am sorry that you aren't pleased with eBay's recent changes to our
search results. Enhanced search results was designed using input from
our members. The new design displays seller information in your search
results, allows you to quickly view pertinent information about each
item. You can also instantly add items to your Watch list.
Please be aware that this is a test of our new design. A small
percentage of randomly-selected buyers will see the new design when they
view all search and browse results pages, along with Sellers Other Items
pages. In a few weeks, selected users will also see the new
functionality and design in item lists within an eBay Store.
I hope as you become more familiar with our enhanced search results
you'll agree it makes eBay an even better place to buy and sell.
Thank you for being a valuable member of the eBay community. Have a
wonderful time shopping and selling on eBay!
Sincerely,
Kim H.

Bummer. There are lots of times I look to see what my competition is bidding on rather than do my own searches. White House Easter eggs are one example where I do this. Ebay will get less of my bids now because I may not know an item is out there. Obviously, I can't play this game with the people who exclusively snipe their items.
On the good side, I'll save some money and those of you who don't want us seeing your bids will be one notch happier

A question I have is how do look up auctions an ebay member has won? I didn't know this ability existed. Is it part of a new (ebay) software program? It could reveal if a buyer is buying cheapo low grade coins and reselling them by increasing the stated grade (dmplrainbow was infamous at this).

<< <i>It also prevents people from running up competitors.

Quite the contrary.,some bidders will play games just to run up your bid and not be ID-ed....... Auction snipers for me..no more max bid on the bay Sellers in the long run will lose out on this measure.
One thing lost in this, is another cost saving measure by Ebay...less servers needed to keep stored info on bidders....
wouldn't I still be able to see who ran me up in each auction using the bid history?
What I think we were talking about here was the feature that Ebay had showing every auction a particular bidder had bids on. The single auction format page still allows for its history.
That is why i made my comment. besides using it as a tool to ferret out shills it also will hinder those person intent on running up competitors. They will no longer see by a simple click of the mouse what auctions anyone else has place bids on. For awhile last year the same guy would place bids on every card i needed ( that is every card i had a bid on) . he either wanted to drive the price up to keep its value, or just wanted me to pay more. It got to the point where I had to snipe only.
Steve
<< <i>wouldn't I still be able to see who ran me up in each auction using the bid history? >>
Once the change is fully implemented, no. All you'll see is Bidder 1, Bidder 2, Bidder 3, etc.
Russ, NCNE
Yes you can have two acounts but if you bid on your own auctions you will be kicked off eBay on both accounts. They can still, and do, track the IP addresses.
Ask a couple of the menbers about it????????

This is actually the law in Germany, i.e. eBay Germany and maybe other EU countries have never allowed this access.......
WELCOME TO AMERIKA, COMRADES!!!!!
I'd be confused if I bid on more than 5!!
