Now Iam getting really pissed...

I bought a Vermont Comm raw on Ebay from Trade-on-line. They have a Seven day return 100% guarantee........Look at the emails below, apparently, its seven days from the day he ships, and if he denies he got the emails your out of luck.

timbrit Apr-17-06 at 10:00:41 PDT

Item Significantly Not As Described: 1927 Vermont Sesquicentennial Commemorative MS-65+ (#3965808160)
Payment Method: Credit Card
Payment Date: Apr-04-2006
Additional Details: Coin has been cleaned Wish to return pursuant to return policy. Seller will not respond. Have emailed
five

trade-on-line Apr-17-06 at 13:03:12 PDT

Item was 100% correctly described....
We have only recived 2 e-mails and we responded to both...
Thank
You..

timbrit Apr-17-06 at 13:17:23 PDT

I emailed you from my isp twice on 4/12 and once one 4/13, I emailed you though the EBAY site on 4/13
, 4/14 and 4/16. I have had NO response. Regradless of whether you believe the coin has been cleaned.
You have a 100% gaurantee. I want my money back. Your poilicy states that a confirmation number is
required to effect return. If you cannot email it to me for any reason, please respond with it here.I
am sure EBAY will ensure I get the return information if you provide it to them.

trade-on-line Apr-17-06 at 15:27:33 PDT

Well, we did not get any e-mails on the 12th or 13th. We did get the e-mails later e-mails witch we
responded to. Again the item was 100% correctly descibed and photoed. Also even if we would have
gotten the first e-mails this is after the return policy time peirod. The emails we did recive we
expained that it was past the return time peirod, butnevertheless by your dates this is also true.
We are sorry if you are unhappy but we provided a quality product in a timly maner inline with our
policy.

timbrit Apr-17-06 at 16:32:27 PDT

You are incorrect....This coin was charged to my account on 4/06/06 to REGAL COIN EXCHANGE 912-3
04/06/06 812.00. Even assuming you mailed it on the day you charged my account, your seven day return
policy means I had until 4/13/06 to notify you of the return. In fact the coin was NOT RECIEVED until
4/8/06, plenty of time to meet your return policy requirement. Unless you count the seven day return
policy from the day you ship it, which is ludicrous.

timbrit Apr-18-06 at 08:13:12 PDT

So just to clarify, your return policy is seven days after you ship the coin?

Normally I would Neg the SOB and keave it at that, but now I want my $800.00 back

How did you pay? paypal? check? paypal thru balance/credit card?

what state does this scumbag live in?

Is he a member of the ANA, PNG (LOL), etc...?
  • His Ebay name is Trade-on-Line from Savannah Georgia. I charged it to my credit card , the name they used was Regal Coin, Inc........I dont know how to link to ebay but it was EBAY item No. 3965808160.

A couple of rules to live by:

    1. NEVER by raw coins on Ebay unless it is a modern commemorative or some other government encased issue that is really hard to find "messed up."

    2. For an item like a Vermont commemorative half dollar, you are really not going to save that much by buying it at auction. I much prefer to deal with people I know, who back their return policies, via private treaty.

First...keep copies of all correspondence/relevant dates, etc...

I would send the coin back to him via REGISTERED mail with signature confirmation.

I would then call my credit card and do a chargeback on him.

If I were feeling especially hateful, I'd file a complaint with his local PD/SO and the USPS, and the ANA (if applicable),...... Oh, and ebay and his AG and BBB if he is a business.

and if you don't get your money back....

file a civil suit against him in your local court and have a lien placed on his ass.

my friend did that to some dirtbag that sold him a broken cell phone on ebay that refused to take it back. After he failed to appear (of course) he suddenly decided to pony up the money and my friend returned the phone.

Do a chargeback on the credit card. Send the coin back registered. Tell him to use spell check.

  • If you used PayPal, just file a complaint. They make him give you your money back.

  • call the cc company and tell them it is to be charged back. I would also cancell the card and request another incase he puts it thru again.

If you used Paypal and you go through the CC company first, paypal will blackball you. I'm pretty sure everything you do has to be through them and not the CC company. Although getting the money back should be your priority.
  • Guys -- SCUMBAGS exist everywhere not just Georgia.

I have found them in NY, Oregon, Texas and yes even in Illinois.

The point to this thread is to help the guy with a lousy ebayer. I agree to call the credit card company and deny payment. This has worked on other occasions so it should work here.

I would also blast the seller with negative feedback -- there is no room for this kind of seller on ebay, period!!

I don't use ebay, paypal, etc. I'm kind of old and really can't figure out how to use it and maybe I'm gald because I miss all the stuff like this. I don't trust things on ebay. On the Jay Leno show every once in a while they have crazy stuff on ebay that sells and it's scarry who is out there. I though for a while that if it was a slabbed coin there couldn't be to much wrong but the recent stories of slabbed coins from China has me worried about that also. And as to ratings on ebay, who makes them up? How can they be trusted to be accurate? Wouldn't it be in the benefit of ebay to only list all the wonderful people and not report the bad reports?

Nah, that's a rumor. I filed with both at the same sitting and no harm was done.
  • Thanks Guys, I appreciate the input. I left him his feedback. If I eat this coin it will be a hard but good lesson to stay away from the wannabee's........The stupid thing is I made two great deals with Legend and Anaconda last month. Its not like I dont know where to go for quality.......Ah well lifes a lessonimage

No one better ever tell you to put up or shut up then, you just proved yourself on principle!
Sorry to hear about the jerk and what you are going through, but glad to see you have integrity and won't let a jerk jerk you around!!!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I think I will look at all his auctions, find a cheap one, and then balst away with more negs. Maybe a good warning first.

  • Why not neg him AND try to get your money back?

  • He fraudulently misrepresented his return policy if not the coin. He broke the law. Cancel the credit card payment because this guy will keep doing this. He doesn't care about anything but the money.

    Cookney,

For future reference when shopping on eBay ask yourself the following question: "Why is an $<insert high dollar amount> coin being sold raw?" That one question will save you a lot of heartache.

PS: Seriously, Koknee, I don't understand why you aren't pursuing return of your money, which should be very feasible with a CC charge back.

  • Hi,
i read all the posts here. 1st, some c/c companies wont let you close the acct if there is a disputed charge. Keep in mind if you send the coin back before they make a judgement not only will you loose the 800.00 but he's got the coin back. I doubt you'll get it back if they dont allow the charge back. Being that PayPal is part of Ebay they dont make it easy for either parties, they'd rather the transaction remain, thats a fair amount of $$ they made on the FVF.
I didnt notice why you were sending the coin back. I'm no evpert on coins but was curious what transpired. Since laws vary from state to state you might want to see what laws in his state could work in your favor. Good Luck with this situation, it will probably take time but you should prevail. Again just my opinion, I would keep the coin until this matter is settled.

But if you don't send it back, he will report that you kept the coin and he probably has the proof that you received it. In that case the CC will deny the charge back because you kept the coin.If you can prove with the registered trace and the signature confirmation that he got it back it should strengthen your chargeback claim.
