1. I bought a new dime from Legend:

Most importantly...

2. From the Cowher press conference, Big Ben has a bruise and is NOT RULED OUT FOR SUNDAY!

From the AP...

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise sustained during a game-winning field goal drive at the end of a 24-22 victory over San Diego on Monday night, but hasn't been ruled out of Sunday's game against Jacksonville.

The injury isn't as severe as it initially appeared to be -- immediately after the game, coach Bill Cowher said ``it looked bad.''

They said the same thing about Vick on the day after. But he didn't play on Sunday.

The problem was we could not finish the drives, too many field goals for the Chargers. The score more times than the Steelers yet they lost!

The Yankees lost last night, unfortunately. Who cares about the Steelers.

Cool coin, RYK. And we're all thrilled about the news about Big Ben. Team flew in about 7AM this morning and they got the MRI done before they even let him go home.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    NGC PF63?

    A/T 61

    Not close. Guess again. image

My son said that the coin looked like it had been painted.

63 was Ernie Holmes in the Glory Years™.

I do not remember an important Steeler ever wearing the number, 61. image Maybe Kranky can help me with this one.

This is nicer than Ernie Holmes. I'm pretty sure it's not L.C. Greenwood nice (68), but it's somewhere in between them...

Ziggy, I am impressed. The coin's slab and Alan Faneca, current guard, share the same number. image

Edit: I did some research. The number "61" has been little used by the Steelers, and no one wore it during the Super Bowl years in the 70's.

If we go to 100-point grading, you might be able to crack this out and go for Lynn Swann!

[Edit to add: That would screw up my Jack Lambert set, though.]

  • Nice coin Robert. Your steelers skated through another game.image I only watch them to see Cowher's expressions on the sidelines....he should be in movies. I thought he would blow a GASKET on that faircatch ruling. The steelers will get their just desserts when they go to Cleveland.image

Hope to see you at the F. U. N.

    Congrats on a beautiful coin!

And congrats on the football win, I was there at the game and it was a good one, if frustrating for a Chargers fan. image

Not many. Most of the camera shots into the crowd showed as many yellow Steelers' Terrible Towels™ as Chargers' knock-off white towels. The Steelers fans seemed nearly as loud as the Chargers fans. In keeping with a Legend-themed thread, I would daresay that the Chargers are a wannabe contender. image

Thanks for the props on the coin. For those who did not get the Alan Faneca (#66) reference, it's in a PCGS Proof-66 holder and nicer in person than in the photo (which is awfully attractive, too).

NGC Proof-63? Laura would not sell me a "widget", Barry. Shame on you. image

  • Darn nice dime! I really hope we don't see Batch next week against Jacksonville. Is Tommy's calf still torn up?
  • Beautiful coin.. Ill guess ngc66*-67* [the eye-appeal is there..] image

    Robert,
The reason I said 63 is I think there are some friction marks on the high points (right breast and thigh).

If you don't mind carrying it with you, please bring it to the meeting later this month.

Come on, Barry, I told my wife I was going to an MRI course at Penn. In light of the Longacre thread, if she reads your post, she is going to think it is another BS coin trip. (I'll bring it image )

You tell her where you hang out online? Big mistake! image
  • The dime is a beauty (much easier on the eye than Faneca!!)....now, for more important info - I picked up Charlie Batch for the upcoming week in my fantasy league - what odds do you lay that he'll play?? I say he starts, and if things go well, plays the entire game.
I'm gonna have to give Legend's site a look-see......Hmmmmm-Haaaaa, double yoi!!

Nice coin! I aspire to an early dollar Terry Bradshaw. They are saying bone bruise around here, so I am hoping Big Ben will be back in one or two weeks at the latest. Dont be surprised if he is back this weekend.
