new VAM magazine -- would anyone like a free copy of issue #1?

Sample copies of issue #1 of VAMview, a quarterly magazine focusing on VAMs and VAM collecting, were distributed to about 60 dealers at this week's Long Beach show to start spreading the word about its existence. My two buddies and I are now ready to start letting collectors have a look.

This isn't a magazine intended for hardcore VAMers, but for people who already collect Morgan dollars and might be curious about learning more about the varieties they could already have. The biggest part of each issue will be several hundred recent VAM sales transaction prices gleaned from anywhere and everywhere we could find them. The idea here is that while price guides are fine, we think people can decide for themselves what VAMs are worth if they have actual sales data to look at.

It is 5.5"x8.5" format and is only available via e-mail as a PDF file, which means you need Acrobat Reader in order to open it (which is available for free download on the Adobe Acrobat website.)

The issue is layed out in what is called "printer's pagination". This means that page 36 faces page 1, page 35 faces page 2, etc. To make your own copy you will need to print out page 1 of the PDF file (containing issue pages 1 and 36) then turn it over and print page 2 on the back. Repeat with all the pages until you have a total of 9 sheets printed front and back. (Four magazine pages fit on one standard size sheet, which equals 36 pages.) Stack the sheets with page 1 on top and fold it in half. You will then have the entire issue in sequence from page 1 to 36. (Sounds complicated, it is a little, but it really works.)

Tim was telling me about this magazine last night just a few minutes before you posted. I requested the first issue as instructed above and I've just finished reviewing it. WOW. What an amazing, detailed, and invaluable magazine.

Peace dollars are a real problem point for us. Since we're all friends here I guess I can be totally candid:

We need to do something with Peace VAMs, but none of the three of us knows anything about them, which means we need to find a knowledgeable contributor who can help us out in that area.

Enjoyed the first copy and check in the mail for subscription. Thanks for bringing together these data points on valuation. I think we will look back 3 years from now and marvel at some of the bargains still available in the current market.

The recent auction prices of VAMs should prove to be extremely useful for buyers and sellers alike.

Non-VAM collectors should take a look at their collections and see how much their coins REALLY could be worth (hopefully, after I get to cherry-pick them first).
