I know for a fact that these were stored in the original mint packaging. WHat toned them like this was the damp humid climate. They are not AT. Which TPG would slab them? I would want PCGS or NGC but would they?

I agree with Cameron, unless someone offers you stupid money for the raw set -- which is a distinct possibility in today's market image

sometimes, it's a fine line between AT and "environmental damage".

It's not the debate with the Grading Services always if it is NT or AT, yet rather is it "Market Acceptable"? Right now the 'Market' is having difficulty accepting these.

Irrespective of the cause or result of that toning, there's only one solution, Bill. Send them to me and I'll evaluate them for further action.image

    Slab,slab..Than sell.

Do NOT slab them -- you will NOT be happy with the body bags....It does not matter if the coins are NT, they will get BB'd anyway...I've already had this experience with coins I know to be NT....life ain't fair, nor are the grading services....you will whine and moan and you will have no recourse....image

What is the current pcgs definition of "environmental damage"? Are these the silver versions or the clad type?

  • do some eBay research and see what similar items are going for - if you feel you would be happy with "that" amount - then sell raw and save slabbing money, time and effort ....... and possible BB.

If any of them are "dear to your heart" - then keep it.
  • cosmicdebriscosmicdebris Posts: 12,332 ✭✭✭
This is definately a tough decision. I know they are NT and love the way they look. I want to keep them but then I also want to sell them to buy other items. I may put them on eBay with a reserve and see what happens that is unless someone here wants them bad enough first. I am going to have to think about this.

Really..How did they tone so fast? What gives here?
  • cosmicdebriscosmicdebris Posts: 12,332 ✭✭✭
They were stored in the original mint packaging but where the person lives is a very damp and humid climate.

    oh billybob

Remember I had the others from that lot...PCGS chewed em up and spit em out. (I left them in mint packing the seller provided us when sent in)

Maybe anacs or ngc might slab em, I didnt try...I got so disgusted I put them in wayte raymond boards and sold em to michael dixon.

Yeah I remember Bill, but there is no way these are AT. PCGS is just to chicken to slab them.

No matter what, you should keep the CT for obvious reasons.

Try to sell the rest raw . With photos like these, it shouldn't be a problem. image

What about ANACS? Would they slab these as NT?

  • Man, good luck on getting those slabbed by PCGS. It's tough enough getting 100 yr. old coins slabbed these days, with that kind of toning... They are nice though!
    image
  • Were all of those 25c stored in the same Mint Holder?

If so, how did they tone so differently?

I would expect them to have all the same toning.

I am just wondering, not trying to prove you wrong.
