New Member Hello

Hello everyone - it seems that Numisaddict.com may be down for good, at least for the last several days, so I decided to join this forum. I see many familiar names from NA, and it seems that posters here are very friendly as well. BTW my username on NA was RLAYDEN.
I am very new to coin collecting, got sucked in by the State Quarter Program, and have been accumulating just about everything that I can get my hands on - I seem to love them all (possibly not a good thing).
I have recently decided to try my hand at completing a Franklin set, first to see if I like it (as if), but more importantly to focus on one type of coin instead of buying all over the board.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello with Post numero uno, and also thank everyone for being so nice to us newbies - it really *does* make a difference!

I am new to this forum also. I think it is the best one I have ever seen.
A lot of experts around here with free knowledge.
I would avoid "accumulating" coins and instead focus on collecting coins.
(Putting nice MS state quarters in an album is collecting; keeping every one you get in change and placing them in a jar is accumulating)
Sounds like you are starting out good by collecting Franklins, those are nice and affordable.
So are Morgan Dollars!!! Very affordable in the MS ranges!!

What started out in a rather small tupperware bowl has moved into a large sheet cake type tupperware container (and the smaller bowl) - and I'm about ready for another large container. I don't have to tell people here - this is great!
My last two aquisitions - 1892 and 1893 BU Columbian Commems (one is toned). I'm not sure that I want to collect all types of commems, I just really likes these.
Anyway - thanks everyone, you will be seeing my posts in the future!

New Collector, learning all I can.

I have a birth year set of world coins (mostly from proof and mint sets) and I like that collection a lot. It is one that is fun to work on and try to find different countries for.

<< <i>I have not decided on a specific set to work on yet. Any suggestions? >>
Basicily, About the best advice is to stay within your budget ( whatever is most comfortable for you ) and collect something that your excited about. A good amount of people here collect 20TH Century Type Sets ( This here well give you a general idea it would intail 20th Century Type Set ) . Maybe try Franklin Halves or Silver issue Roosevelt Dimes ( the silver issues where from 1946 til 1964 ) . They`re only a few suggestions but, mainly I suggested them as they are fairliy easy to do and somewhat easy to the pocketbook. Or, if you want something alittle more challanging, maybe try Peace Dollars or Mercury Dimes or Buffalo Nickels. Still though, collect something that your excited about!

I, too, started out collecting a bunch of this and that from eBay with no goals or direction.....1853 Liberty seated half dime...10 Franklin halves for $2.35/ea--I had big ideas of reselling--haha...1964 JFK silver half dollar tribute colorized...1918-P Walking Liberty half dollar...1973 Ultra Cameo Proof Kennedy Half--I'll bet!...1893 commemorative US Columbian half.....Anyway you get the picture.....THEN I found this forum and started reading, getting educated, wised up a bit and have finally settled into collecting coins minted in 1852.
I have a goal now and I feel much better and more focused. This is a great place to be. It took me awhile to feel accepted...maybe because it's mostly a man's world here, I don't know. There were a few times that I wanted to leave, but there was something that compelled me to come back and now I think I'm hooked!
Is this what your 1893 looks like?
Well...welcome you 2...come often, stay long, and have fun!

<< <i>Howdee! How did you come up with your name? Was it from the Rocky Horror Picture Show? >>
Yes, Tootawl - if you look at my icon, that is none other than Riff Raff himself!
<< <i>Bugs - Is this what your 1893 looks like? >>
I wish, mine is more of a light toning - I will try to scan 'n' post
