Help!!!!! A "NEW" DOUBLE DIE?? 2000P dime reverse

Has anyone seen this one before?
It's a 2000P Roosevelt dime with a double die on the reverse.
In the pic you can see the double U and the plant but it is also on the B.
I have other pics but are too big for here. I can send them if someone can help.
My email is collins_sheldon@yahoo.com.
I also have (2) of the 1972 dbl dies and a 1960 all lincolns

I don't think so. You usually need more than doubling of 1 letter or number to be considered a double die. Of course, that's just MY opinion, and, I HAVE been wrong on more than 1 occassion. Here's the photo for you. Ray image

No idea- but you may find help at CONECA.
Interesting- looks like a double die to me. I will keep my eye open for another one.

Pardon my ignorance, but how does one letter get doubled and none of the others? Seems crazy to me.

  • I thought dies prepared after 1997-1998 no longer required multiple strikes with the hub? (thus making doubled dies a thing of the past)

As I remember seeing, the master hub gets pressed into the die. The hub is conical. If the hub isn't seated quite right, I could imagine that the point of the cone comes in contact with the die then shifts to be seated properly. Therefore, the center would/could be doubled while the rest of the die might not be.

    But what do I know....image

Interesting find.... will wait for experts to input on this one.. welcome to the boards. Cheers, RickO
  • Looks flat like machine doubling. And with one letter and part of the design, it's even more likely. image

I'd suspect hub doubling but it should be quite common were this the source.
