1969 D Washington Quarter Newp (Lots of Die Work) Type "M" Thanks ProofArtworkonCircs

I'm not sure what type reverse (A,B,C,M) still trying to commit that information to memory.
I picked it up because of all of the die grinding marks all over the obverse and reverse.
Thought I would share it with the group. There seems to be a bit of an up-surge in the discussions
concerning the Washington Quarter Series.

Interesting specimen... no special value, but good pictures and serves as a teaching tool. Cheers, RickO
  • RickO,

Exactly what I was thinking when I picked it up, nothing much in terms of monetary value. But a nice die study piece.
Between the study of the Morgan and Peace Dollar VAMS and the numerous
die varieties in the Eisenhower Dollar series, When looking at coins now I seem to be picking out those types of details in
all series of coins. It is interesting how over the years you come to look at different attributes of coins first.

  • The reverse is type M used on 12.0% of the 1969 D's.

What's the value of the type M reverse Herb?
  • Herb,
Thank You very much for that information. With all the the discussions about the Washington Quarter Series lately I find myself looking at them
more on my excursions to the coin shops. Now I can mark that one as a Type "M" and use it as a study piece until I get all of the attributes
    committed to memory.

    Thank You

I am afraid it is no extra premium at this time. 12 % of the 1969 D is a healthy quantity and interest has been miminal so far.
The 1968 S are mostly M. THe 1970 D is mostly M in mint sets and dealer's stocks and 11.2 % of what is in circulation. However a 1970 Philly M in high grade would be a good find. They seem to be 6.3 % of a smaller mintage of 136,420,000.

I still find it a very interesting coin because it is so obvious and its history as being originally a proof only design and issue.
