2008-W UNC ASE Question? ? ?

Just received my '08-W Burnished ASE order and noticed that it has the new style obverse paired with the old style reverse.
Anyone else notice this?
What reason would the mint have to continue to use the reverse with the old font when the '08 Proofs and non-MM ASEs have the new reverse?
Regards,
John

1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

Good Thread on the Subject
isn't there a "foot" on the U in the reverse?
it's new too.
Compare the "U" in United on the '08 Proofs or no MM ASEs with an '07 then ck. the '08 rev.
1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.

I've got all three types of 08 ASEs and they're all the same obv and rev., bullion, proof, burnished unc, all the same new font, new style, etc.
Leftover dies a possibility?
Sure hope some more folks find this so ya'll don't think that I've absoutely lost it.

edit: It's been my contention that sooner or later the mint would realize their capitalization error and we'd have us a new low mintage coin this year when they rushed to create a coin with corrections.
first question about use of lower case
j/k (obviously)
I took a quick picture of the reverse. This is the first time I've tried to upload a pic here.
Hope it worked .
Edited - Didn't know that it would be so big. Sorry for the blur, but didn't set up the tripod.

This is the obverse. Another freehand shot with this cheap little Coolpix point & shoot.
As you can see, this is the new design '08 die, matched with an old style reverse die.
They are not all like this?

To me it looks like you have a winner.
I think the mint does things like this on purpose to increase interest and sales.
Now, which is going to be the lower mintage, the original lower case variety or the upper case one? Did the Mint intentionally correct this or wtf, over? Maybe I'm imagining all this.
Or reverse of 07 & rev. of 08.

Dang! Never get anything good from the mint!
The name is LEE!

Nice Little Die Rotation On This Reverse. Too bad it is'nt enough for the Designation.. Ray in Florida..
If halfhunter isn't kidding us, this may be the find I've expected since January, a correction by the Mint.
link to jsf thread on this forum about lower case U use by mint - 01/08
The two that I got are definately the '07 type rev.
Just thinking, bet this would make a neat multi-holder set.

Hope it makes the 2009 Redbook!
Oh, wait, they already published it...........
This use in UNITED on the 2008 ASE is/was just flat wrong, IMHO.
uNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Maybe that's what they're teaching our kids these days!
<< <i>yeah rg, I couldn't believe the Mint used a lower case U. They've used one for a while, various places. Check back on the regular Washies versus the spaghetti-hair Washies. I believe there was a change in the fonts used on the quarter somewhere in that period.

They've been using that same "U" for ten years on the state quarters. Chill.
<< <i>Dude, they're (lower case U) on all six of the ASEs I've received. >>
when did you order them? they were back ordered for weeks.
It's still inappropriate spelling, IMHO, but that never stopped anyone around here.
edit: I mean the use of the lower case in TRuST on the quarters. I didn't even think of the use of a lower case U in UNITED, at the time I noticed the TRuST.
<< <i>Seems like the 'u' in trust on the obverse has the same kind of schizophrenia as the reverse. >>
Yes, but since the dates are on the hubs you are not going to find a 2008 coin with the obverse style of 2007.
Box of 20
<< <i>This would explain why the mint boxes were opened in the shipping box ?
What are you talking about?

I purchased 5 ASE's X 5 to have for first strike. I opened one box & the Blue boxes inside were apart with the top cover on the bottom with the coin exposed.

Don't be so sure about that. The mint is not 100% error free
I'm Fed-Exing one of these to them to photograph.
Trying to get it there before the cut-off for the next edition.

I have two unopend boxes of 5 that are really rattling around. So I think I have the same problem, but don't want to open them yet.

<< <i>I wonder if any have been slabbed yet as First Strike Designation and not identified if a variety is ever assigned.

The coins were LOCKED in, You need a crowbar to get them out!!!!
The obverse also looks like the old design, only with the date changed.

<< <i>just searched 62 08 (non W) eagles. All lower case. >>
Maybe there's more of the lower case U type than the correct type, lol.
