  • Is there still only 1 of these?

I was part of a forum where one of the guys submitted the 1st 100 ever. He had such a great eye that SGC hired him.

I would be SHOCKED if they ever gave 100 to another one for several reasons.

If you took every psa 10 and bgs 9.5 out there I doubt a single one of them would cross to 100.

That sure is one nice card nonetheless. Awesome.

  • Thanks biff.

I'm e-mailing the original submitter to see what he sold it for originally.

It was graded by SG, not by SGC, and not with thet split 1-10 grade. SG's standards were not anywhere near what SGC's are. I've tried crossing SG graded cards both in and out of the holder, and none have ever come close to the original grade.
This one might as well be a CSA/USA/KSA 10.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

But won't SGC honor this card & grade so you could always get it re-holdered in the newer SGC case?? image

No they won't honor the grade. They will regrade it for a nominal fee though.

That said I'm sure the card is awesome. I have an old SGC holder 98 and it puts my five PSA 10s to shame in corner strength under magnification.

    Here is his response:

Yes, that was my card and that was the person that bought it (Randy Jacobson). I think I got a little less than $2,000 for it. But that was in the day when no one knew who SGC was and I didn't know how tough the 100 was. Otherwise, I would've held on to it for a bit. I also sold an SGC 98 ARod Score R&T Call-UP and an SGC 100 and SGC 98 Walter Payton Topps RC around that time.

Thanks for letting me see that the ARod topped $20K... image

Nice ROI on a 2K investment I would say.
  • Winner of the SGC 100 AROD also did buy a BGS 9.5 for $3,000 recently.

I could see this going either way:

    1. The buyer has $$$

    2. He bought a similarly-graded card for less than 1/7th the price...

    3. He realized what a huge piece of garbage the bgs version was and wanted to buy a better one.

Basing this on my experience with bgs cards. Not saying all bgs cards are junk, just alot are. Especially seeing that the one he bought has a 9 subgrade for corners. This is bgs's excuse to grade a 9 quality card a 9.5

  • That is insane. But props to the seller. I hope he savors that cashola.

For the buyer's sake, I hope A-Rod stays perfectly healthy for 5 more years.
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

    Aint that the TRUTH !
  • Why is it 'stupid money'? An absolutely perfect card of who might be the absolute best player who ever played?

How is it any more insane than dropping $25k on any other card? It's no more of less unreasonable than spending similar money on any other sportscard.

I'm not saying I feel this way, but a lot of people think paying "old card money" for a new card is immediately dumb. If it's not a rare card (completely discounting condition), it shouldn't bring as much money...period. That's how a lot of people think.

I for one, couldn't care less! Kudos to the seller!!

Is he still into cards? I havent spoken with him in years but I use to setup next to him every week in parsippany. He had the highest percentage of SGC 98's on tough cards i have ever seen. Awesome eye, he later went onto work as a grader for SGC but I am sure you knew that. If you speak to him , tell him Roger says hello.

He still does some stuff. He recently completed a Topps Mexican FB set from the 70's.

PM me if you want his e-mail address.

I emailed SGC with this very question last night. I have a Cal Ripken Topps that is graded SG 96 that I want crossed to a new flip so it says SGC. They replied that they will look at it and reholder it as long as it still meets the grade it was originally given. If not, they will contact me and work out the details. I am sending it in tomorrow with the reholder fee and I think it will go into the new holder and flip with no issues.
