Same thing posted on another forum: Well done. My only fear would be that 100 families now know that you are a coin collector and there might be one bad apple in the bunch that would find it interesting to rob your house one day. That would stink. Maybe if you are in a neighborhood, set up on a corner?...if you are in an apartment complex or condo then maybe just set up downstairs in the parking lot etc? Good for you though! Just keep yourself safe.

In the latest issue of The Numismatist, ANA president Walt Ostromecki writes about
giving coins as Halloween treats. He includes a card that says, "Want to learn more
    about money? Visit www.money.org!"

I give out Whitman coin folders that have been started with a few modern-date Lincoln cents.

I, myself, would be careful not to advertize around rhe neighborhood that I have old coins in my house. Just takes that one person knowing this and you might be putting your family in jeopardy. Just me being paranoid?

No. You are being security conscious.

Cool idea. I did the exact same thing one year.

Of course I made sure to give a piece of candy, too.

Most kids weren't impressed ("Oh, a penny.")

But one was totally psyched to get a coin that old, and got quite excited.

That one kid made it all worthwhile.

To set everyone with the security issues mind at ease, we do not hand out treats at our home. We also have a mean dog, very mean, so mean I've been looking for a good home for him.

that's good. might be good to have some theft insurance too, just in case.
