A step-by-step on Photobucket posting & configuring

lkeigwinlkeigwin Posts: 16,893 ✭✭✭✭✭
There have been many posts on this over the years. Bits and pieces. Many of the older posts are no longer accurate due to software changes at Photobucket.

I thought this might be useful to some. It's from a recent PM to another forum member.

The process is actually very simple and you will get the hang of it quickly.
Lance.

1) Make sure your album is "public". Check this by clicking "More" (up top) and clicking on "Edit settings..." Note that you can make your folders private (not public) and forum posts will still work. You just cannot post a link to your PB folder on the forum or in a PM.
2) Uncheck the "Link back option" to avoid extraneous html text in your post (the forum software doesn't support this feature).

Do this by clicking on the blue "Update Link Options" (you'll see it in a box on the right, labeled "Links to share this album"). Remove the check in the box next to "Link back to albums". "Save" the change.

Now you're ready to copy the link for the photo you'd like to post.
3) Place your mouse pointer over the image. A gear wheel will appear in the upper right.
4) Move your pointer over the gear. A pull-down list of options will appear. Click on "Get Links".
5) A pop-up window will appear. There will be lots of options.* Move your pointer over the text just below "IMG codes (for forum boards)". Click.
6) The text will flash yellow and "Copied" will appear briefly. That action copies it to your computer's clipboard, just as if you were doing a <ctl>C (which you don't need to do). Hit <esc> to close the pop-up window (or click on the upper right "x").
7) Now go back to the forum and hit "reply" to one of the messages in the thread you want to post to. A text box appears.
8) Write your message and when you are ready to insert your photo where your cursor is, paste with <ctl>V or whatever command you use to paste something from your clipboard...Macs use <command>V for example. Web browsers also have a pull-down option for pasting.
9) "Preview" your post to see it worked to your liking before you "Reply to thread".

Remember that the image will be placed where your cursor is. This is unlike linking a web page you want clickable, which always goes to the end of your message regardless of cursor position.

* These options are configurable. I never use anything except the IMG code and the HTML code (rarely). So I configured Photobucket not to show the others. Do this by clicking on your Photobucket account name (upper right), clicking on "User Settings", selecting the tabbed page "Albums" (upper left) and unchecking the ones you don't care to see under "Links".

Another useful configuration is sorting. First thing at the top on this configuration page. Choose oldest, newest, by title, etc. which will be used for each new album. Individual albums can be sorted differently by clicking on the box next to "Order by:" near the top of each album.
Lance.

Actually, I have found the situation to be a bit different depending upon whether your album has the organize feature turned off or on. When organize is turned off, there are only 24 images displayed per page and the proper code is already displayed on the bottom. Just click on the IMG, and it highlights blue. Right click and copy.

When organize is on, all of the images in the album are displayed and clicking on a pic puts a blue square border around it AND activates the 4 buttons on the bottom. Clicking on links button om the bottom far right brings up the various image codes and you always want the bottom IMG code if you are posting pics here. Clicking on the link copies it.

Right. There are various ways to copy image text into your clipboard. Turning on "organize" changes the user interface a little and works just as you describe.

The user interface and behavior are also a little different if you "turn on easy linking" mode under "user settings" / "albums". I don't find it particularly easier so I don't bother with it. But that presents another way too.

Unless I know that the coins I am interested are on the first page of the album or the album contains less than a page of coins, I usually turn on the organize feature.
