Huge score from the bank on Friday

FadeToBlackFadeToBlack Posts: 7,847 ✭✭✭✭✭
Teller called me, said "Hey, we got $100 in halves somebody turned in, want me to hold them for you?" and I said "Sure, I'll come on Friday." So I withdrawal my paycheck, almost drive by before I remember and stop in, and pick up the rolls. There used to be cherrypicking tellers at this branch so I was expecting a dump, little did I know.

15 40%'ers
5 1964's
26 Franklins
137 WLH's

Most of the Franklins were early-date Philly coins in AU or better... I think the bulk were '49-'52, with a couple '48's and 3 later dates. The walkers were really mixed up... there was probably 30 or AU coins, and a couple MS ones as well. No key dates, but... one crazy variety find I have imagined myself cherrypicking, but never fathomed finding in a roll...

image

I also picked up a box (only one out of 4 that had anything) later in the day that gave up over a roll of 40%'ers and a couple '64's... putting me at $103 face in silver found on the day. image

I know I posted a thread about a couple coins from this find, but figured it was awesome enough to be worthy of it's own thread.

Teller to call me her long lost brother. image How cool is that on the one side ? ... and how sad for the person who didn't know the intrinsic value or understand the numismatic value of money, in hand.

Amazing, haven't found a bank yet that has halves or can order them.
Where the hell are all the halves? I see the DDR is already in a Dansco.

EDIT: Where are the bank tellers heads?
Almost sounds to good to be true.

I need to find a teller like that. What a fantastic haul, can't believe there are people out there who would turn this stuff in at face. I would be barely able to contain my excitement as they handed them over to me at face. You could blow them out on the Bay right now for fantastic profit then buy a really nice coin or else just keep as silver investment.

Wow, I dream of deals like this everyday. Way to go!

Its difficult to understand why someone who works in a bank wouldn't educate themselves on the difference between clad and silver coins. I know they come in wrapped and all, but seriously...why not take a quick peek and see if someone gifted you an extra two weeks pay?

These days many of them do. I think that may be the last time that that teller in the OP gifts that customer.

Find it hard to believe that a 30 something year old guy and no one in the bank knew it was silver.

I did have a minor score. The teller had a giant stack of silver dollars in front of him when I showed up. I asked what they were - he said someone just cashed them in. I bought the whole pile and he didn't seem very interested in finding out why I wanted them. 23 Peace/Morgan in the lot.

No, I've gotten customer rolls just littered with silver dimes there before... I think nobody there gives a crap.

My best guess is that someone died, and the inheritor was that guy... he just didn't realize they were worth anything.

I'll do you one better. Turn your speakers down... It's a little loud to start. I don't know if you'll be able to understand me through the mumbling and general incoherentness due to my shock, anyway.

Just remove the extra https:// (I removed it in his link above...try it now)

Easiest thing to do when a link doesn't work is hover over it...many times, it is just an extra https:// or http://

Wow! I think my narrative would have had lots of bleeps given the same situation, way to go!
  • This must not have happened at a Chase bank.

Had a similiar occurance about year ago.

A young attractive girl with her loser boyfriend sitting in the car just deposited a bunch of silver half dollars and silver dollars and Ike dollars.

I was next in line and wanted to buy them. [I always ask while I am there but they never have any or just a few clad half dollars.] Was told they have to bag up loose change and send it to the main branch to sort and count the amount.

I offered to count it for them in front of them. Never did get them.
    I was livid.

    It's a very nice score, but 2K ???

These go for hundreds on Teletrade in high mint state. What am I missing? I'm asking because I have one of these I found a year ago and just put it away for later.

Forget the donuts and pizza it should be steak and lobster for your teller friend!
