My first ever Saint, grade finally in.

If not for this board, I never would have known about the 20th Anniversary sets. If not for being unemployed, I wouldn't have been home in front of the computer to place my orders. Profits from the sales are going to bills of course, but not before I got my first Saint. Nothing special, but I love it. Different lighting techniques in an attempt to accurately portray it with my little Canon A75.

Grade away if you like - I got it raw and am interested in everyone's thoughts.

Thanks again!

Thanks WJ, I tried to take "bad" pics...show all the flaws.

And thanks for the thoughts re: work. I'm in the film business in NC and it's been spotty, but things are looking up.

Thanks Mike - I'll take a 63 anyday. And thanks for the wishes - as long as the Mint doesn't release anything crazy while I'm working lol

Nice Saint, Newb! Most people would justifiably pull in the reins when unemployment occurs, but you saw a profit opportunity and went for it! COngratulations and good luck in the job search!

    64 shot 65.

Marks appear fairly light, and PCGS seems to have more tolerance for marks on Saints than on silver coins.

You have to run a Saint through the garbage disposer to get a 61.

MS64 Too many marks for a 65. Nice coin. Are you going to get it slabbed? If you do, let us know how you made out.

The 1908 no motto was also the very first Saint that I bought for my collection. It is housed in the very first PCGS holder grading out as a MS63.

Good work on picking this one up with the proceeds from your 20th Anniversary sets. Holding those heavy gold coins in your hand for the first time is a rush.

I bet you get a grade of MS63 out of this one.

Thats the way you do it, money for nothing and your coins for free.

    Nice purchase.
It looks MS63 to me. Without the nicks on the thigh and minor scuffs on the reverse, it would probably grade higher.
    Good Luck

Thats a great looking coin. I'll say it would go MS63+.

Sorry about the unemployment but keep the faith. I think your pictures look very good as well....... maybe a new career??? image

    My first thought was MS63.
  • Thanks all for the kind thoughts and opionions..

I will send it in, and will let you know the results. From a rough guesstimate, I think the board agrees on a MS63.

I think 65 was a gift (its a 64 IMO) but it is a heck of a score for just over melt.

Funny thing is, I bought one, then came back to the same table later, saw this NICER one that he had put in the empty hole, and swapped it for no charge.

Nice guy - planning on spending more $ with him this weekend.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I had no idea a coin with so many marks could go 65.

I had a nice nasty quote written up earlier but I deleted it...however, in PCGS'S defense, the pics don't do it justice. Is it overgraded? No one here knows, because they've never held it.

The sour grapes crowd can take it up with PCGS. image

Also, marks tend to be more noticeable when the pic is the size of a dinner plate.

    Newb,

Like your Saint and have enjoyed this thread.

First you stumble into Modern Bullion Money Makin' Crap™ and then you get
a good lookin' Saint for 7% over spot. (not to mention your $12 teletrade score).

    You on a roll.

  • I read this thread for the first time now. The first set of photos had me thinking 64, the second 63. Congrats on your 65!!!! I'd say buying that coin for %7 over spot and getting it into a Gem holder deserves a "you suck." image
  • Thanks Swampboy - and again, it's all due to the knowledge gained from this board. It's been a true blessing during a rough patch employment wise.

But, all is good now - started a new movie this past week that will run until September. And can't resist buying nice raw Saints with Modern profits.

Picked this raw beauty up from the same dealer last weekend - it's at PCGS now. I had to go 20% over spot, but I think it's worth it. I love the die crack.

Oh, and re-reading my "sour grapes" comment above, it seems a little harsh. It was not directed at anyone in this thread.

  • That 1924 looks like a MS64. But the way the grading services are now it would not surprise me if it came back a 65.
