ANA Summer Seminar — Session 2 Writeup (June 27 – July 2) (Lots of PICS!)

I know I'm a bit behind on posting this, but I wanted to properly document my week at ANA Summer Seminar Session 2, because it was honestly one of the best weeks I've had in a while. Here's the full rundown. I drove into George Bush Intercontinental Airport (Houston Texas) at around 6:30 am on Saturday. My flight departed… -

asheland’s latest NEWP #2 of 2 The Indian Head Cent!

One of my all-time favorite series… I kind of collect these on the fly, if I find one that I like, I just simply buy it, I thought about doing an entire set in the past, but that’s quite an undertaking and I collect so many different things that, with my limited funds, I have to be careful… This one has me re-thinking… -
Re: Kirk Menczer Collection Sale Part 2 (Mexican Republic Minor Reales)
I really planned to bid more of the 1/2 reales and wanted to land a key coin such as the 1867 ho 1/2 or even that 1844 ca 1/2 real. Unfortunately I didn’t arrive until the 1847 Zs om and I lost that one lol. I thought with the 1 real coins I won that I would land some more of the 2 reales or 4 reales. IMO they were bid… -

Felt like this one deserved it's own post... I still average maybe 1 or 2 silver quarters per year out of dozens of boxes. So this all from one box of vendor coins is just completely nuts. I went back to the Chase bank where I got them to see if they had any other boxes with the same date stamp, no luck there. But also, no… -
Re: Pushing 2 Dollar Bills
Let's not forget, we're talking about two separate quasi-government institutions: the Mint for coins, and the Federal Reserve for notes. They each have their own rules for what pieces of money they produce, and when. Much of the "wastefulness" of redundant money comes from bickering between these two organizations. The… -

Re: Indian Head Cent Struck On $2-1/2 Gold Planchet
Mint worker shows up for a day's work with $2-1/2 gold coin in pocket. Intercepts a gold planchet about to be struck and throws the $2-1/2 he came to work with into the collecting bin with the newly struck $2-1/2s. Leave work with gold planchet to be used another day when worker or worker he is in cahoots with is making… -

Extreme Makeover - 1829 LM-2 Half Dime

I was looking at 1829 LM-2 Capped Bust half dimes at the behest of my friend Louis. I saw two that had a similar scratch. The first one, a dark MS63, sold in 2017 for $652. The second one, a brilliant MS65, sold in 2024 for $2700. Same coin. 1829 LM-2, PCGS MS63, Heritage 7/9/17 lot #7257. Sale price: $652…
