Re: I just can't believe SBAs go for this much money
<< <i>I've never understood why there can be so many MS-65, 66 and 67 Morgans, and there are so few Ikes or Susies in those grades, despite the fact that the Morgans had another 100 years to be mishandled (time in vaults notwithstanding). Is the minting process or the handling that much rougher on coins today? Are TPGs… -
1875-S Trade Dollar PCGS AU-58 With Chop Marks

This is the best of both worlds in my opinion. Graded by our hosts as AU-58 this coin exhibits a strong strike from fairly fresh dies as can be ascertained by the reflective steel like fields along with a small degree of cameo in the devices. Excellent detail that shows the entirety of the design, the added chop marks are… -
Wisconsin "extra leaf" quarters -- my analysis
Fred Weinberg was kind enough to send me two "high leaf", two "low leaf", and two normal Wisconsin quarters. Considering the amount of interest shown in these varieties on this message board, I thought I'd share my observations, analysis, and conclusions regarding them. I hope they prove helpful to some of you. A number of… -
Just heard of the passing of Bob Bruce, of All American Coin Co. & a Forum member
I just found out tonight that Bob died in Florida on July 13. He and I have been friends since 1999 and he was helpful in getting my interest in coins rekindled. I worked with him at a few shows in Pittsburgh over the years, and when he moved to Florida we stayed in touch. He really wanted to come up to the ANA this fall… -
Re: Multi Date Penny, really strange!
So there is no way grease clogged die - the contents of that grease filled die can fall out before a coin is struck? OR a little sliver of that grease filled die can fall out before the coin is struck ? If this is not possible, then dropped letters from grease filled die's are not possible. However, I have seen a coin sold… -
Re: Ripped off by someone at the Post Office - or - Scammed by Ebay Seller
You paid for item. You expect to receive item. You did not receive item. You file Paypal not reveived claim. You get money back. Simple. Insurance is for sellers, not buyers, do not fall for the " you did not buy insurance" SCAM. Seller chose to ship without insurance. Insurance is for sellers, forcing buyers to BELIEVE… -
Re: Why are the results of 'mint sport' called 'errors'?
The numismatic term "error" often causes confusion because it is assumed that "error" means "mistake". This is not correct. An error coin is not defined as a coin that was made by mistake; it is a coin that was made wrong (i.e., a coin that was misstruck in some way). As we continually remind newbies on this Forum, a… -
Re: psa/dna multiple autos ?
Personally, I wouldn't spend the $. The piece you have is great, and all the signatures are legit. If you ever decide to sell it, and you are going to do it yourself, then I'd go get the cert. If you go through an auction house, they'll do the authentication or pay for it themselves. Some like Heritage may charge you a fee… -
Re: Langbord Question for Sanction, et al.
<< <i>This was published in the E-sylum this morning. "Israel Switt, a Philadelphia jeweler and pawn merchant, has been identified in recent years as included in the pedigree of every known specimen of the 1933 double eagle or $20 gold piece that ever surfaced. This includes a number of pieces in the 1940s and 1950s in a… -
Re: Pete Rose - Do you think he will ever be in the hall of fame? *POLL*
ajw, Your point is very well taken. However, gambling has proliferated tremendously lately. It is not the taboo it once was. I understand a rule is a rule, and maybe Rose knew it carried a lifetime ban and he felt he could beat it and is still trying to. The fact that he gambled on baseball although he never bet his own…
