Re: May pickups...

The board veterans probably know that I’m a rabid Mickey Mantle fan and collector. There are items I have that PSA grades, and others I have that they do not grade. While PSA currently does grade every other Yankees/Mantle Trifold, they do not grade this one as it is not dated like every other one is in the lower right… -
Looking for a good book on gold rush coinage

Grew up in the California gold country, and just picked up my first piece of early San Francisco gold! I've definitely been bitten by the gold rush bug- does anyone have recommendations on good books to read regarding the gold rush? Specifically books regarding private minters, or early San Francisco mint would be ideal.… -
Re: Ever see a "spooned" coin that looked like this?
geb209: That blown glass chalice with the 1888 Liberty Seated dime in the knop is an intriguing item, and puts me in mind of a similar piece that I saw a few years ago. My good friend and "Federal Half Dimes 1792 - 1837" author Russ Logan called me to tell me that he and his wife Brenda would be visiting my home state of… -

It's any… -

Re: Post a beautiful half dollar

It's beautiful! I like it a lot, but I wonder what's happening on the reverse rim at 6 o'clock. Perhaps my most beautiful half is a 1939-D MS66 Walker I bought from @MarkFeld when he was a dealer 18 years ago. It has large golden-orange streaks of toning deepening to red across the obverse, with some blue patches near the… -
Re: PRESTO! CHANGO!

<< <i>It's little exercises like this that pull the veil away for us all to see that the TPG is a ruse for those that cannot grade coins. Buy the coin and not the holder. Never more true than now. Congrats Russ. You done well. >> First, you say Russ can't grade (after all , he tried it three times) ... then you… -
Re: Warning- this is counterfeit - beware!

Good question. There are coins struck outside of the U.S. Mint, but with genuine Mint dies, featured in Appendix C of the Judd book, as you obviously know, but maybe some collectors were not aware of this. Here is a perfect coin that addresses several issues in this thread, and in CaptHenway’s post: •Gold Die Trial struck… -
Speaking of rusted dies.....
Somewhere on this planet shouldn't there be coins with the rust stamped right into the metal? So the early 1900's mint worker shows up for work Monday morning and sits at his coin press. :( He dons all his safety gear, (back then there probably wasn't any) hits the press's green "ON" button, then sits down to take a sip of…
