Re: The Greatest Generation.

Lt. Albert W. Wells, USN. USS Cony. Battle for Leyte Gulf. My grandfather, a coin collector from pocket change, received this 1942/1 dime during his coffee break in the 1950s. He'd been looking for one for years, but he selflessly offered it back to the lady at the cashier. He told her that it was valuable, and she should… -
Die Rust vs. Spalling

Cladking -- interesting question on die rust vs. spalling. After the early 19th century I'm a little out of my element, but generally improvements in steel technology (particularly die steel) helped to eliminate spalling. That stated, I'm still not sure everything that is called die rust after, say, the 1830s is. This is… -
California Gold Rush Heist
Years ago, RWB sent me a large file of Archival material to look at. The following is one of the letters or information contained in that file. I found it to be an interesting slice of California’s Gold Rush history. On April 18 of 1853, the New York Mutual Insurance Company wrote to the Philadelphia Mint instructing them… -
Re: Rusted Die 1901 Proof $5???
<< <i> << <i> << <i>You can find a couple of other rusted die 1901 proofs in the Heritage archives. I didn't bother doing any comparisons to see if it's a different die from the non-rusted ones or a later die state. (And, you can find the coin discussed here also. Note how yellow it looks at present.) >> I see the one from… -
Re: Topps Bob Ross X
I thought the idea of the card set linked to Ross was dumb. Still do. He literally has nothing to do with baseball. I knew Ross had died, but assumed his family owned the rights to his name/likeness. Someone made a comment somewhere to the contrary, then I found the netflix documentary on Ross and ended up watching it.… -
Re: Seller on ebay doesn't know anything about his coin...Just that it's rare...
It's three bids from one bidder. If a bidder goes in and increases his high bid but there are no competing bidders then the leading bid doesn't change. I have increased my bids occassionally in the past. In the case of this auction I'm not sure if the bidder is honestly increasing their bid or if it's part of a ruse to… -

Re: kind of off topic..
Everyone is a bit different and what you say sounds like a grade 2. My experience is about 3-6 months for full non-surgical recovery. Younger heals quicker. My caution. Don’t rush it. It took me 3 years of setbacks to get back to 100. What does his ortho say? The location and severity play a major part in the surgery… -
