Re: Traveling

Yep, I can imagine that was frightening Steve. Probably wouldn't have been good to hit him. Probably would have made him made. Like Mongo. The last time we drove through the park was in late afternoon. The bison were grazing and meandering around. We were in my old VW Beetle at the time. We had to kill the engine and wait… -
Re: Please help me understand more about the 1840-O Lib H.E. and broad vs narrow mill
well my timing was off with DW. He was watching the big game and only had his blackberry device to work with. i will not quote him, just summarize. 1. assumptions based on photos is a tough way to go. 2. these coins need to be viewed outside of the slab side by side. 3. the width and shape of the edge is key. that is about… -

Urban Meyer announces his retirement from OSU after the Rose Bowl.
It's been a pretty bad year for Meyer and it seems to me that he's probably had enough. Despite his various health concerns he's taking quite a beating at some other sports chat-rooms. I find that very troubling. For whatever reasons he seems to inspire a level a contempt in fans that is right up there with the expressed… -
Coin show today in NH

Went to a coin show today in Manchester. Looked at lot of capped bust half dimes, including many I had not seen before (two dealers with decent selection were new to this show). Here's what I bought: ............ Striking out in my main area of interest I gave it one last shot by viewing some classic large cents at the… -
The coin abuse thread
We have lots of non-numismatic uses for coins in our society. Very handy, these metal discs. You can measure tread depth with a lincoln cent. Even a staunch numismatist would agree that a zincoln couldn't be damaged too much by such a use. What about other uses? The nickel screwdriver: When you deal with photography and… -
If you scratched a $500 winning scratch ticket...
...what coin would you buy, just out of the blue....one you hadn't planned on/for? You suddenly come across an extra $500, don't need it for bills, college books, car is running fine (knock wood), nothing. It's just begging to be spent on a coin, and you can afford to grant the $500 it's wish of being spent on a coin.… -
Re: Buffalo nickels .....lets see your herd...
@CalifornianKing I also want to explain that Maryland was very divided in the 1860s Lincoln train was not allowed to travel through Camden yards why he would of been killed! The first shots fired may have been at fort Sumpter SC. The very first "death " in the civil war. Happen on Pratt st Baltimore inner harbour...right… -
Re: Has anyone reneged on their agreement to sell their 25th Anniversary sets for $400 or less...
<< <i>I got together a group of coworkers to sell to a large national dealer for an extra $100 a set in an unopened mint box of 5 sets. I agreed to the dealer for the group. The backlash towards me today when word got around what they were selling for on ebay was a little uncomfortable. They all backed out of the deal to… -
Re: Worst cards store in America!!! hands down!
We had a local shop called Bernie's that would always get the best boxes, sell them at the lowest possible price. If you opened the boxes there and got an insert you didn't really want, he would trade you into an almost equal card you did want, and save that card for another customer. I easily spent $200 there every sunday…
