Re: QUESTION ABOUT DIPPING COINS

Acetone doesn't qualify as a dip in the coin sense of dipping. It's just called acetone, buy it at any Home Depot, paint store, hardware store, etc. It simply removes contaminants and doesn't affect the coin surface. You can't tell an acetone bath coin from one that has never had an acetone bath. It can work wonders for… -

Re: What was the most important thing to come out of the Ask Me Anything session?
I've done 3 "guarantees". No. 1: Proof Kennedy 1968 purchased on ebay. Had a spot on it, but was graded PR69DCAM. Took MANY months, PCGS (HRH) agreed it wasn't right. I was contacted and quoted a price. It recouped my cost and I could purchase a replacement (all I was after) so I agreed. I was sent a check and the raw coin… -

<< <i>If I buy a bucket of 500 silver eagles how much would you charge to store them in your closet for 1 year? AWESOME toning. Cameron Kiefer >> Thanks Cam I don't get "rainbow toned" but I also don't put them in my bathroom or near other stuff. Any of them dated prior to 2002 are from another source (sometimes in the… -

<< <i>The fields, especially on the lower reverse, look messy for a 68. It could be on the slab, though. No question on the DCAM. Nice coin. >> The fields are quite clean on this one, for example, what you are seeing between the B and E on Liberty on the obverse is the reflection between the slab and the fields, not some… -
Re: Time to experiment.
I would steer clear of jewelry or silver polish as "dip". They are not trying to preserve luster and most likely are just stripping the surface away. In general, there are two ways to restore a tarnished surface: * Dissolve away the tarnish * Chemically reduce the tarnish (silver oxide, silver sulfide) back to silver… -
Re: Many People ask me how the American Silver Eagles tone so nicely or sometimes even wild....see insid
They tone from the materials they are touching as well as the air/environment they are in. One time, I made the mistake of putting one on display (the little "feet" holder displays, but it was right above a heating vent. I didn't even realize it at the time (location was central to the room, very visible, and in front of a… -
I could not resist ... whaddaya think? UPDATED
Well, I'm sitting here with some money burning a hole in my pocket (and I'm sure as @#%^&**+@! not going to put it in the market at the moment) and I could not resist the following BIN at $30 per coin. An added $15 each for grading and I do not see much, if any, down side. But, this would have brought in one darn nice Jeff…
