Really not true anymore, as even allowing for the random scumbag seller, eBay offers buyers pretty much foolproof protection, if they open and dispute a case. The burden of dealing with eBay scammers rests pretty much fully on the shoulders of sellers; I'm grateful to be an occasional seller and not have to make my living… -

They would probably have been better off just having them slabbed and quietly selling them via a major auction. The publicity could bring unwanted attention from scammers, thieves or claimants that could tie the hoard up in court and cost them huge legal fees. I hope they don't run into any trouble. -

has anyone ever considered teaching one of these scammers a lesson and doing a big chargeback on them? i get sick of seeing that sort of crap last year sometime i got scammed on a "proof" indian from a guy in i think it was north carolina...by the time the coin arrived the paint was chipping off to reveal an AU coin
