Re: Best Dodger pitcher ever? Koufax or Kershaw
Sandy Koufax’s rookie season was 1955. The Dodgers won the World Series that year. He was a spot starter who also pitched out of the bullpen from 1955-57 (3 seasons). Over that three year span, he starts 28 games and pitches to a four ERA. In 1958, he becomes a full time starter. Some of that was in part because he was… -
Re: 2000 P Sacagawea Dollar "Cheerios Dollar" Question !!!
Besides inclusion in the Cheerios packages, they were used at at least one press conference in October of 1999. What happened to those coins I don’t know. Because there are some coins in Cheerios packaging that are not the pattern reverse, I suspect that some of the patterns were rejected, perhaps for spotting, perhaps… -
Re: Dec 4-5, 2015: Two gold signet rings! And the newest one is dated 1927

Wow! You're killing me with those sweet gold rings! Those are really special ones. I could go on and on about all the other interesting items too. Clearly this is a very special spot! That Merc is in rough shape indeed. Takes some nasty conditions for a 90% silver coin to go that crusty in a century or less! By the way,… -
Re: Sep07
I damaged my knee, Mary. I found out today that it's not ready for one of my normal hunts. I tried anyway, and will pay for it tonight. Went back to one of my 'no skunk' sites and found three new hot spots. Seven IHCs, a seated dime, and a lantern top were found in a 4 foot circle. Must have found a campsite. The rest was… -
Re: cut to the chase....what lp2 dated boxes are yielding the most errors?
<< <i>Anyone have any luck with boxes dated 4/13/09? >> All I have heard is that you will probably end up with about 100 spotted coins from that date. Who knows you might be the first to find something new in there. I have given some thought to this date though, If it were possible to find the box with the earliest date… -
Re: How To Clean Coins
What does baking soda do to a coin? bad things! if you scrub a silver coin with baking soda (or any mild abrasive) it will temporarily remove tarnish and "shine it up" but will destroy any luster, remove original protective patina, leave swirly hairlines, make it dull and "cleaned looking". Try it on a junk silver coin.… -
Shoebox of Morgan’s/Peace Dollars

BS’ing with a buddy today and conversation turned to coins. The fact they’re valuable was mostly lost on him. Then he says his father has a shoebox full of old dollars. Fast forward until tonight when he sends the pics below. In total there’s a couple hundred. He’s a few hundred miles away and is not savvy on numismatics… -
Re: OK, how do you detect putty, tooling, etc on coins?
Putty on a coin is used to fill in a nick, mill mark, etc. usually on a focal point of the coin, such as the cheek. When I have seen coins that have been puttied, it is usually on only one mark where that one mark might make the difference in receiving a higher grade. Although well done jobs can be very difficult to… -
Re: For the Labor Day holiday... Post a Coin you had to Work Hard to get.

<< <i> << <i>To get the piece pictured below, I had to do the following: 1) Go to college and study Mechanical Engineering. 2) Work for 15 years doing computer graphics programming. 3) Write my own digital sculpting/engraving program. 4) Take my life savings and purchase a commercial (industrial) workshop space, a CNC…
