I think you hit the nail on the head here. We don't know if the story is true and, if so, what kind of coin it was but a 2 point Reconsider/Regrade grade jump (which apparently they assumed) would likely have a hefty Guarantee Premium. I could absolutely see dealers not wanting to pay that and then being stung by the false… -

The various 1914/3 Buffalo Nickel varieties. Once discovered these things started to fall out of the sky, with examples now known from all three mints. All evidence points to this variety being a doubled master hub or die, meaning the population should be several orders of magnitude greater than if it were a doubled… -

Is this a freaking joke? The hobby is certainly different since the '90s, but it is alive and well. What a ridiculous and false idea for a show. Sales have been great for trading cards lately. The premise for the show is 100% based in falsities. -

Forget "market acceptability" when dealing with counterfeits. Regardless of when it is discovered to be a false item, it still is what it is. The dealer(s) who sold the item in question is/are still responsible all the way back to the source (if determined).
