Spammers monitoring these message boards.
I thought board members would like to know that it appears spammers are monitoring even this obscure corner of the internet. On the 14th I posted an item on these boards and included an email address for replies. The address had not been subject to spam in the past – probably because it was not published anyplace. Spammers, like cockroaches, are everywhere and pretty much impossible to eradicate. -

I sent an email to Andy Lustig once, and I got an auto reply that said something like, "you are not on the approved list to send an email to this address. The owner of the mailbox will be informed and if you are approved, then your message will go through." I wonder if that option is available for all email accounts. -

rwb, you know sooo much coins but so little about the intertubes ;o) bots crawl and get the email addresses from webpages as other have stated. so when sharing an email address obfuscate it a bit. like joe@lol.com will be joe at lol com and those who wish to email the person will be able to figure it out. if they guess… -

I know that Earthlink has that option. It can be difficult to manage the list though, so I don't use it. Trend Micro has a free spam filter (for consumer use only) that works pretty well.
