Acetone will not "shine up" anything. It is a degreasing agent that will remove oils and such. It will not remove tarnish/toning or those "milk spots" with are the result of improper rinsing of the planchets after they were cleaned at the mint. Acetone is great for PVC and some organic stuff. Not much help on milk spots. Sometimes acetone will remove a little ugly only to show off the ugly under it. On the very few coins I feel can be helped I always try acetone first. Don't know I have ever improved the luster using it. I feel that every coin is a different… -
