Milkspots and MS Silver Eagles
How much value is lost due to milkspots. An MS69 2006W 20th Ann Eagle sells for about $80 on Ebay, if the same coin starts to show milkspots does the price drop? Or are milkspots just accepted for the MS Eagles. -
Toning over milkspots ?
I was wondering if you took milkspoted Silver eagles, soaked them in alcohol or acetone then let them out in the air, would the toning cover the milkspots? -
Milkspotting ?
I have read about the "W" ASEs (2006-2008) milkspotting after being slabbed. Has anyone ever had them become milkspotted in the original capsules they come in? -

This bismuth / milkspot theory needs more proof than what I've read here so far. Someone needs to send coins milkspotted vs. non-milkspotted, with known sources of the originating silver ore, i.e., Idaho source vs. a bismuth source to a metallurgical analysis lab for the bismuth content to be measured. You might as well ask if it's right for PCGS to slab Silver Eagles that are known to milkspot? PCGS is certainly aware of the milkspotting issue which is the reason why they don't give out MS70s. If PCGS continues to slab coins that are known to milkspot and accept them under their buyback policy, why shouldn't you take… -

it's important to remember that Milkspots aren't something that ocurrs after coins leave the Mint. in truth, a Milkspot is most accurately described as a strike-through of liquid remaining on the planchet surface from improper/incomplete rinsing. the spotting you describe sounds to me more the result of post-strike…
