I agree, not carbon spots, but more like milk spots/stains. You can't remove them without changing the color of the surface of the coin, and it would cost you more to have it worked on than it is worth. If someone could come up with a way to remove carbon spots, they could about pick where in the world they would like to… -

I agree, it is toning not what we normally refer to as a spot. Carbon spots or milk spots can actually be harmful to the surface. These would drop the grade significantly. I don't think your toning spot effects the surface and should maintain the 70 grade. You will have to check NGC's written description to see if toning… -
NGC & PCGS Kennedy's - Problem Slabs
Ok was cleaning up and found the following (problems described): NGC 1968S PR 66 (spots-tarnish) NGC 1968S PR 67 (spots-tarnish) PCGS 2001 PR69DCAM (spots) PCGS 2001 PR69DCAM (milk spotted) While I assume both NGC and PCGS have some procedure to remediate coins such as these I have no time nor the inclination to do so.… -

I made the rookie mistake of telling my wife I'd make money on this

ATHs and grading out some widgets has been pretty good to me lately. I also did very well on some modern gold and silver commems, too. Lost on a few OGH upgrades but ATHs helped me reach the degenerate gambler's dream of breaking even. I think I did a good job of weeding out milk spots, carbon spots and defects. I've… -
