Re: What does recoloring mean
Eeek...Guess I better figure out houw to spot one....Anyone want to post a example? A good one next to one thats been recolored for educational purposes? Repaints have done a number on our hobby (Antique Lures) and have discouraged many newer collectors....Every year they get better and better at fooling even those of us… -
Re: Did you all see the new PayPal refund policy?
I had not had a return in ages then a guy returns a $500 coin out of buyers remorse - nice coin totally blindsided. Needed the money to pay tax bill. After getting the coin back issued refund. It took them 2 days get the money from my bank account on the refund transaction (had already been transferred not anticipating he… -
Re: The coin collecting hobby: would it be as fulfilling without the bad stuff?
Coin collecting for those of us on a budget is like tiptoeing through a minefield. Some of the biggest advertisers on eBay, Coin World, and Numistmatic News are inveterate overgraders. The subjectivity of grading and large price spreads between adjacent grades of a single issue make the crackout game popular. There are… -
Re: Latest email from Moderncoinmart looks like spam to me
Here's most of the rest......they really are sinking lower and lower....these reads like any of a dozen sleazoid internet scammers to me. "Many of you last year purchased the Dutch Lion set last year. It was one of if not the hottest release last year. Very fast sellout. This year they are continuing the series with a new… -
A (tardy) PAN Show Report

For the first time, the club instituted an online auction (ably managed by CoinZip) and the items were on display at the show. Probably about 100 tables and I counted at least 5 new dealers. The vast… -
Re: The biggest shocker at a coin show
While helping PTVETTER at his PAN show table a few years ago, an older guy stopped at the table holding a handful of coins wrapped in an old rag and asked if they were worth anything. Said his father had them in a box in the garage for years. I saw a few dug and corroded colonials that were barely identifiable, and one… -
Re: When is a Doily not a Doily?
<< <i> << <i>I see nothing wrong with this listing title. It's a subclass of OGH, several people know the Doilys and know about the two piece construction, and would understand what the seller means. Spamming would be if the lister just put Doily in their title, but I think it's clear what he means when he says "Transition… -
Re: I dont know about you but i am....
JTMC - The tough economy and its effect on the employment situation, has brought out some desperate-for-cash sellers who are clearing out the attic and/or doing contract selling of others' junk and garbage. It also has brought out all the email spammers who'll do anything for a nickel - spam has gone up tenfold on an email… -
Coin Hijinks
The topic presented a few days back by Master Collector -- the coin you dreamed of owning when you were a kid -- brought back some youthful coin experiences to me, including one that still makes me laugh. My best friend through my pre-teen years was a wonderful class clown named Richard Hagemeier. He followed my interest…
