Re: Airtites & PVC Flips

I just ordered one of those display boxes^. Yea the milkspots drive me crazy whenever i look at them i think ill stay away from putting mirrorlike proofs in airtites in the future. I made a quick video of the ones i put in airtites and the milkspotting doesnt seem to be too noticeable but when i put it under a bright light… -
Re: Milk Spots - is there a timeframe on their development?
Yep, there is risk with the 69s for the guarantee, it's appropriate for the grade, evidently. MS69s can have milkspots, as I understand it and be A-OK, good luck selling them, however. I sold four 69 and (two seventy sets) recently because of the risks of milkspot potential and who knows what the price will do next. Now… -
Re: Ethics question (re: acetone dipping)…
<< <i>Once the milkspots have established themselves, acetone (nothing actually) will remove them. Send them in for the spot review and get them downgraded or bought out from under you. >> Doesn't NCS have a process for removing milkspots? I thought I read here that they have a bit of a proven track record with minor… -
Re: Milk Spotting On Silver Eagles & Ziploc Freezer Bags.....
So first off why can't the Mint or whoever supplies the planchets effen get it right the first time by using pure water to rinse them? It would seem that the milk spots are kinda like waterspots on dishes from a dishwasher that uses hard water. How do you know the coins are struck from planchets with water droplets on… -
Re: 5 oz National Parks Rounds
<< <i>My Lincoln Comm Proofs have spots on them. Not so much on my MS Lincoln Commems. >> Please post a photo. Sure there are small spots or blemishes on some proof commems, that's what keeps them out of 70 holders. But milkspots, the type of spots that show up after time and grow, tend to be on silver eagles only (both MS… -
Re: Smart idea or not??
What I was planing to put in ASEs I am moving to Silver Brittannas, no spots and much lower mintages. I know at least one other person so sick of milkspots that they are seriously thinking of making the same move. If I want to see milkspots I can go look in the kitchen after my kids have fixed a bowl of cheeros. ASEs are… -
Re: New Buffalo arrrived today

I'm so used to looking at my crappy coins that this one is awesome!! With that much detail I would think it was one of the first batch struck with brand new dies. And although I don't know crap about Buffalos, maybe venture the milkspot (if that's what it is) on the obverse by Liberty and the dot below the chin on the… -
Re: 20th Anniversary Silver Set - pricing
<< <i>Do these milkspot in original mint containers? I have one set (stupid not to get more) and I would like it to stay nice. >> Milkspots have only been reported on ASEs stored in TPG slabs and ringed AirTites, and then only occasionally. It seems there may be some combination of Mint production methods and the flexible… -
Re: Coins back from Restoration - before and after pics
Badger, how much time has elapsed since these changes took place?? I would suggest, as MasonG has, that you act immediately to stop anything worse from happening. if you send them to PCGS they'll evaluate and go from there. I will say this much: if either coin has "Milkspots" they may not be able to remove everything… -
Re: Dan Carrs latest
I had one silver eagle in a group that all came back graded 70 from PCGS, with TrueViews. One of them developed milkspots within a week of the order being returned form PCGS. I didn't go through the complaint process, but cracked it out and sent it to @dcarr for an overstrike. Came back fine and, last I looked, not a…
