In this example, it looks like someone took a normal cent and compressed the edge of it between two hard surfaces. The reverse is smooth and uniform but the obverse looks a little hammered. There are a couple of types of old tubes that pose problems. The two types shrink after time and litterally encase the coins. With Cent rolls the tubes are usually thin and if you can pry the top few coins out then you can cut into the platics depending on the hardness, I then like to peel it around and down.
