For Type 1, 1849 is usually the best struck and with sharpest details, it being the first year. If you get an O-mint type 1, you'll have to look longer to get one that's struck well. For a Type 2 in a type set, try and find an AU without clash marks that's struck well. 'twon't be easy, but you'll learn a lot about type 2… -
