Grading of a Silver Eagle
So I acquired some coins from a flea market recently and one is a 2010 ASE, graded MS69 by PCGS. Got it home and noticed it has several spots on it. Not whitish 'milkspots,' but 4-5 dark-colored spots tucked next to the shoe, hands and other features. It is kind of weird because they are not very noticeable when looking… -

Re: Has this Saint been puttied/messed with?
I don't know, but I sure would like to see some good closeup pictures of puttied gold coins (or other compositions besides gold, if puttying is done on them.) Edit-that green looks almost like PVC haze? It wouldn't have come from the PCGS holder, but it could have been a contaminated coin that was not properly conserved?… -
Traded 10 oz. of silver for 4/10 oz. of gold!
I have been getting rid of my Silver American Eagles partly due to lack of interest and the milk spotting issues and to fund my newest collecting habit of CBH's.I had sold a complete set of NGC MS-69's a couple weeks ago on E-bay and made very little after all the fees.Anyways I had 10 left that I wanted to get rid of,all… -
Re: Acetone and spotting eagles.

Place a small amount of the acetone on a clean mirror (lay the mirror down horizintally, of course )and let it evaoprate. If it dries with no visible residue it should be OK to use on coins. Not all 100% says 100% and even 100% sometimes accidently gets some residue dissolved in it sometime in its handling before it is… -
Re: 2011 ASE 25th Anniversary
<< <i>You only save about $2 per coin if you do bulk. Really not worth it. Probably send in a few in to see what I get. Rest will remain in sealed boxes for now. Don't collect these anymore, might keep a MS S version if in MS 70. Rest I don't care about. Nothing new about this set except this S coin. If demand was there… -
Re: Goal Completed - A Peace Dollar set for your Enjoyment
Notsure, Thanks for the gushing praise, but this set probably isn't quite as rosy as you might think. The 1921 has a couple of ugly spots, but I look past those due to its strike. The 1922 has some milkspots around the date. The 1923-S is toned enough to not match well. The 1924-S is a touch splotchy and the 1926 is worse… -
Re: Franklin Half Instructional Series Supplemental: Grading Uncirculated Franklins
<< <i>An area I have always had difficulty with. The difference between MS-65F(B)L and MS-64F(B)L. It seems that the grading services PCGS and NGC are very tough on the the 64's. Most of them seem more like 65 if comparing them to other series. Could you expand your discussion on this? >> there are several things that… -
Re: Damage from slide in album?
Yep, no proofs. Also, make sure the coin is straight in the page (not tilted in anyway, but flat, if you know what I mean- it should be close to an even distance from the slides on all sides, as much as possible.) And watch out for dust. Some dust is grainy- like superfine sand. Amazing how abrasive the stuff that floats…
