Re: I'm tired of people using the "MS65 to MS66 is the same as MS69 to MS70" phrase.
Another point to make is that the value of a typical coin that were are talking about in the 65 and 66 ranges is partially technical grade and partially eye appeal. OTOH, the ultramodern 69 and 70 coins, ignoring postslab milkspotting, are entirely valued by assigned technical grade. There can be some grey area technically… -
Re: Thinking of selling all my ASE stuff
Thanks for all the feedback. I started collecting Eagles as my first series. I am also gearing up to start collecting Standing Liberty Quarters. I have a bunch already, but I want to organize them and start adding higher end coins and grades. I like to buy a couple things from the mint and set them aside for my boys… -
Re: Mint still sending 2008 SAE Reverse Errors - Yippie
<< <i>I spoke to a local dealer today on the phone about these "errors". He said he is a buyer at $275 per coin in the raw, but also told me of how one of his dealer buddies has accumulated over 300 pieces already. Couple this with the fact that you just made a 5 for 5, and you have a surefire recipe for a HUGE fall in… -

What coin surfaces do you like best and why? Mint State, Proof or Circulated?
I have always like pristine proof surfaces, particularly Cameo proofs [since, as some persons say, proofs represent the highest expression of the minter's art]. Impaired proof surfaces, including hairlines, marks, milkspots, carbon spots, etc. can ruin the appeal of these coins to a much greater degree than similar… -
2006 20th Ann. AMERICAN SILVER EAGLE 3 pc. sets 69 or 70 Plus a 72 DDO

I've got a couple sets I saved for a rainy day. Now for me it's looking cloudy These are graded NGC and I'm the only owner, smoke free environment and all coins have no milkspots and nice slabs. I live in the dry desert and I've never had an issue with a coin turning on me. (knock on wood) A NGC 70 set $815 A NGC 69 set… -
Re: Speaking of Spotted Coins & eBay Ripoff Artists You think the other one is bad check this one ou
<< <i>Hey man, I just looked at a few I had slabbed years ago from across the street- Pre PCGS, and one is staring to develop some little White spots. The oldest one- the 86, of all things in an ICG slab, doesn't have a spot on it. Now, how can this be unless there are some slab issues here? Could it be that some are just… -
Re: Has the silver eagle spotting mystery been solved?

I know the milkspotting problem seems to be widespread, but is it a storage issue? Does everyone see this problem? I took my 2015 proof ASE's to co-habitat with their brothers and sisters, and spot checked (<---pun, haha) about 2-3 dozen proof and uncirc ASE's from 1986 to present, and *none* had any spotting. Checked… -
PCGS Encapsulates 10 Millionth Coin
(Inspired by press release in June 2004 Numismatist) [Newport Beach, CA] On January 7, 2005, Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), a Division of Collectors Universe, Inc. encapsulated its 10 millionth submission--a 1964 AH Kennedy half dollar. Graded Proof-69 DCAM, the milestone piece was submitted by Russ of… -
Re: Another seated half is on it's way......
You guys crack me up........ There is page after page of threads that say "YOU CAN'T GRADE FROM A PICTURE"......... and here, where the picture is obviously not of great quality, your tripping over your tongues in a rush to say it's overgraded........ I think that there are many on the boards that will try to say that the…
